Dear Dr. -------:
I am writing to you today on behalf of my academic suspension from the university. I intend to complete my Computer Science degree at — and would like to do so without missing a semester. Unfortunately, due to my substandard GPA, I have been required to take one semester off. I ask that you please reconsider my suspension as I have identified and eliminated the problems that have led to my below standard grades and I am ready to continue my education.
My grades originally fell below the 2.0 mark at the end of my Sophomore year. My academic performance was miserable stemming from problems at home and not taking school seriously enough. I personally chose to take one semester off because of my performance so that I could decide if college is what I wanted to pursue.
Last semester I completed, and passed, all 17 hours of my course schedule. Unfortunately, I made “C’s” in most of the classes because I did not have enough time to study. I moved out from my parents’ home and paid for the Fall 2016 full-time course schedule entirely from my own pocket. As a 22-year-old living on my own for the first time, I considered it to be an accomplishment to be able to pay my own way through school. Because of my 40-60 hour/week work schedule on top of 17 hours of classes, I was unable to secure enough study time to ensure an improvement to my GPA, even though I was working much harder in school.
The primary reason for me being unable to break the 2.0 GPA mark last semester was due to my hectic and overbearing schedule stemming from working too much to be able to pay for school. I have explained my academic situation to my parents who have agreed to help me pay for this semester, so that I may bring my grades up enough to secure financial aid and full reinstatement to the University. I am confident that I will be able to bring my 1.97 GPA over the required 2.0 mark with having adequate time to prepare for course material this semester.
Thank you,
