Academic year

How does the Academic year work at mich? Is it semesters/trimesters? When do students get out

Michigan uses semesters.

The link below has calendars for each semester

[Academic Calendar - Office of the Registrar](Calendars | Office of the Registrar)

A better description would be to say:

There are 2 semesters, fall and winter, which are full terms and have normal classes going on in all departments. The are 2 quarters, spring and summer, which are half terms and have a few classes going on in some departments. Most students will take classes in fall an winter and relatively few in spring and summer.

It varies by year because of the days of the week but I think generally you start the day after Labor Day, end of finals is the last Friday before Christmas, start again in early January, finish in late April.
