Academically Disqualified Transfer Issues

Hopefully you guys can help me out here. So, a few years ago, I acquired my Associate's degree from a local community college and did very well, graduating at the top of my class and achieving a stellar GPA.

I immediately transferred to a state university, wherein I chose the completely wrong major and proceeded to tank in all my classes. My first semester I failed all four classes. So, I was put on academic probation. My second semester didn't turn out much better, but I managed to at least pass one class, failing the other three.

This caused me to be academically disqualified from my school. I took all of this really, really hard, as it had taken me years to get back to school, all just to fail out.

When I tried applying at my old community college, they basically turned me away because I had already received an A.A. from them. It will be one year sitting in August, and I have since moved out-of-state. I already know other four year institutions won't take me, because I have been Academically Disqualified from my previous university.

What do I do now? I'm totally stuck and don't know which way to go.

This is not necessarily the case. You just need to have a clear idea of why you had the disastrous year and a plausible plan of how to avoid it in the future. The fact that you have taken time off to figure things out is a good thing. You might not be able to go to that “top 20” school you used to aspire to but you will be able to get a solid education and if you make the most of it, be very successful. Identify a few universities and contact their admission offices to gauge your chances there. Don’t be afraid to be honest about your situation. You might find a more receptive admissions office at a smaller private school.

Good Luck!
