What does it mean and how does one become academically motivated? I really cant force myself to study at all but when Im in really good classes (like my physics now), I participate in the class to the point where I dont even need to study for anything and do super well in it

I don’t quite understand your question. But for me, I don’t think whether I’m motivated in a class or not. Too much thinking. Some classes, you don’t even need to show up, and you’ll ace it. Other classes, you study a lot, and you’ll struggle to pull it off. Don’t stress yourself out over easy classes like elementary physics, but direct more focus towards harder classes. Aim for 4.0, at least that’s what I do.

oh no I didnt mean it like an “I need advice” kinda thing. just like, how does one just WANT to study as opposed to NEEDING to study. thats what im asking

I think one of the keys is to get good professors.

I find that I actually ‘‘want’’ to study when I find myself in a subject that I believe can be used for something more than just another letter on my transcript. For this reason, I always look for more reasons of how knowledge in this subject could help. Sometimes it’s hard, but I always end up finding a reason for studying any subject.

A person who is academically motivated is one who

Challenges his/herself with a good amount of AP classes

Balances study life and social life

Seeks to be a member of the many scholar societies of the school

Puts effort into making the Top 10

Cares about their class ranking

Studies not only for school but for their own learning benefit

I think to want to study you have to want a good grade. I’m not sure anyone ever really thinks, “Hey, what should I do on this Friday night? Ooh, I’d love to study!” However, if the desire for, say, a 4.0 beats out the desire not to study, then I would consider that “wanting” to study.

Generally when you’re in college, you take classes you’re interested and thus studying is not a chore but something that you’re willingly doing.

I suppose it’s a different story the first two years since you have general requirements to fulfill. One motivates themselves to study due to the rewards that will come with good grades.
