Academics and guys and unc chapel hill

Hi! I know that unc is a high ranked university, and so I'm wondering how hard the academics are. How rigorous is a Chem class or a physics class for example? Also, I've heard a lot of talk about the dating scene/lack of guys at unc. Is this true? Do girls get frustrated and feel that there is a shortage of guys? Thanks!

The entry-level classes of chem and bio at UNC have a reputation of being difficult. I think that reputation is exacerbated by the fact that many majors have a science “general ed” req. As a result, a lot of students that might not be as strong in science have to take those classes and struggle. I have found sciences here to be challenging as far as the workload goes, but not as bad as many students make them out to be. I’ve been able to get good grades so far, but certainly had to work for them (much more so than in HS).

Sorry I can’t comment on your questions regarding the female perspective of our girl/guy ratio. I am, however, attempting to eliminate as much female frustration as possible … LOL

The hookup scene is bigger than the dating scene.

Chem and physics are pretty difficult. One of my friends carried her orgo book around with her everywhere all semester.

I agree that the hookup scene is definitely bigger than the dating scene, but relationships can come out of those haha. I have plenty of friends in relationships with people they met here, and I personally managed to snag an awesome guy.

I’ll also say that the ratio is 60/40 girls to guys, but at the same time there are 18,000 undergrads. So there are several thousand guys on campus. A lot can depend on the type of social circles you run in as well. It’s not something you should really consider in your decision unless you are determined to meet someone in college and get married right after.

Thanks for the feedback! And NewYawk- if I’m ever at unc, I sincerely hope I meet you. You’re hilarious LOL!

It isn’t too bad, but you are going to do more work here then at another state college. Organic chem, I haven’t taken it but I’ve heard terrible terrible things.

Also, guy/girl ratio is over-rated. A million dudes run around this place, and I hear girls complain about not finding a boyfriend. Honestly UNC could use more quality girls.
