Academics at CAS

Please, I just need a straight-forward answer. What are the academics like at NYU CAS? I've heard the classes are huge and impersonal. Then again, I've also heard NYU has some of the leading programs in the world for Economics and International Studies. I'm try to make my college decisions. What is it like to learn at NYU?

Some classes are quite large, others are not.

NYU has:
12.1% of classes with 50+ students.
28.4% of classes with 20-49 students
59.4% of classes with fewer than 20 students.

Our class sizes are actually very small given the size of the University. For example, Notre dame has larger percentages of classes with 50+ students and 20-49 students. The same goes for a number of other schools ranked between 20-30 in the USNews rankings.

That still leaves me with the concern of grad students teaching classes.

Any large research university will have grad students teaching recitation sections.

I’ve never had a grad student teach a class - only PhD faculty members.
