Academics At Tulane

how hard is it to get an A in a class? for a class such as introduction to psychology or an english or literature class?..whats the grading scale 90-100? any insight would be appreciated, thanks

It's on the their website somewhere. The only thing I know definitely is they have A, A-, B+, B, B-, etc and that 93-100 is an A and 90-92 is an A-.

I asked my son, a senior the question - here's his reply:

Getting an A at Tulane is not very difficult granted you are willing to invest the time and effort it takes to master the material. Very rarely in my four years here have I ever encountered an exam or a class in which I felt overwhelmed by the material or the nature of the course itself (save the one in which I have a midterm in on Tuesday). The fact of the matter is that most classes are designed to reward those that work hard and put in the effort. If you buckle down and study responsibly, you ought to be able to pull an A without too much trouble (and still have time to go out and have a great weekend as well). Higher level courses are more difficult to do well in obviously. The intro-level ones are not terribly difficult. In sum, high grades are highly correlated with effort. Its simple. Try hard and you will succeed. This ain't no Harvard ya'll.

The grading scale here is pretty simple: 93-100 A, 90-92 A-, 87-89 B+, 83-86 B, etc. There is no grade inflation or deflation although some colleges within the University have predetermined class averages. The Business School for instance will always have a class average of a B in the end of the course, no matter what peoples' actual numerical grades are.

Tulane is the best! Come to school in New Orleans, you will not be disappointed.

I was a freeman UG.

Freeman curves core courses between 2.7 and 3.0 and electives between 3.0 and 3.33 The average GPA overall at freeman is somewhere around 3.0.

Getting a B in a freeman course for most people is not too difficult. Getting a solid A in a course takes considerable effort and consistency because you have to be towards the top of the curve on almost all of your tests and assignments. I found that management electives were the easiest to earn high marks in.

Outside the freeman school, its a total crapshoot, when I still had to take distribtutions, there were no LAS grading guidelines so the teacher could do whatever he or she wanted and the goal was to balance lenient grading with good teaching.
