Hey, I was just wondering about the academic aspect of SU. I mean I always hear of the parties, the divy 1 sports, etc. but how are classes? Do people take studying seriously, is there a scholarly atmosphere, how are professors? I think you get the jist of what I'm trying to ask. If any currently enrolled students could care to elaborate that would be great. Does SU really fit into the Tier 1 category (Top 50) as it is ranked by several publications? Thanks for the help.

Well college is different than high school. If you slack off, you are bound to fail. But those who do take their academics seriously, have tons of success in the classroom. Professors are very reachable and academically, its challenging. Of course the course load isnt like yale or harvard, but its reasonable and if you go to class and study, you'll be fine. But, hey its college, have fun!

Thanks; anyone else have any input?

I'm concerned about the same thing--the excessive social scene, the conspicuous consuption, frat parties, etc. Of all the people that really care about academics that are on CC, few seem to comment in the Syracuse forums. Hmm...

Ya I noticed that too. Can't ANYONE give me any reassurance!!

Just don't get hyped on the social scene and don't become one of those party people. It's like that everywhere.

^ That's the answer you give when you know the school isn't that great academically. You can "avoid the social scene and study" any school you go to; but if that was the case why would anyone choose one school over the other...

honestly, the party scene @ syracuse isnt as HUGE as you may have heard. there's obv stuff going on and everything, but you have to be sure to prioritize. i completely agree w/Papersignals about the "party people" aspect. its 100% true. syracuse academics are great, but they wont be if you're always drunk, skipping class etc etc. it goes the same for any school thats ranked higher than syracuse is. if you go out and party all the time and dont bother w/work, obv you wont do well!

always keep in mind what you put into college is what you'll get out of it. good luck next year :-)
