academics v. college experience

What's more important in college, the academics and ranking of your school or happiness socially and emotionally? I am trying to weight these options as I decide whether or not to transfer.

Your success is school should be your number 1 priority, therefore, I would say happiness - socially and emotionally. When it comes to transferring to a more prestigious school you need to make sure you will be able to be happy and thrive in the environment.

Well my predicate is more staying in a prestigious school that Im currently in but not happy with or transferring to a lesser school that might make me happier socially but also way more expensive.

I would say that you are in school to get good grades, not bad ones. If you had bad ones, you wouldn’t be in school in the first place, so get good grades, period.

I’m in a similiar predicament. I’m attending RPI, and breezing through academically (3.9 gpa and all I do is watch netflix and go climbing, no hm and very little studying). However I’m unhappy and unmotivated. I’m considering transfer to a bigger but lower ranked university (UofA and CU boulder).

I think rankings are only so important. If you kill it (get involved in research, high gpa, extra academics and hard classes) at a lower ranked university you are on par with an average student at a higher ranked university.

I think Rankings are just something they use to hook you, but I really don’t know.
