academics....

For cadets…

Do you ever feel like your academics suffer because of all of your other athletic/military commitments…I guess what I mean is do you feel as though you are not able to really absorb the material because of the enormous time pressures you are under?

Thanks,
Sarah

Time management is key.

There is a time to study.

I wouldn't say that. Yes, everything else makes academics that much more difficult to do, but that's the point of this place.

There are definitely times where I feel that way...that because of the stress and additional duties I can't do as well as I could, but as long as you manage your time well and get ahead when it's not tough, you'll be fine on those days where it's too tough to work.

thanks everyone....

"but that's the point of this place."-- well said. I just want to make sure that I came here I would be equally educated in my field compared to someone at a civilian college.

If you do decide to attend the Academy, you will receive a great education. Guaranteed.

You will have access to better facilities and opportunities than probably 90-95% of civilian colleges. You will have an amazing education.

hornetguy, I feel like I should throw some confetti or something for post #1,000. Thanks so much for helping all of us future cadets out! :)

lmao, thanks redhead. Always a pleasure to help yall out.

Congratulations on your 270+ post G4C.

Confetti for you.

...

"You will have access to better facilities and opportunities than probably 90-95% of civilian"

Is it possible to get involved with research in those better facilities with some profs even with your hectic schedules?

Yup. I could be an active observer right now (but chose not to for time reasons). We are offered 499 level courses in all majors both junior and senior years. I am hoping to go to Los Alamos labs between junior and senior year then come back with the research project I jump on and continue it senior year. Then, we are able to publish, yes publish, our senior year.

"Congratulations on your 270+ post, G4C"

Did I miss something? looks at confetti Oh, nice...

On a serious note, nearly every major has a "capstone" project of some sort. For example, for any major remotely based in engineering, you could work on a building an all-terrain dune buggy. Every major (to my knowledge) has this capstone project attached to it, which could mean research, building, or something along those lines.

hornetguy - look us up when you get here to Los Alamos and we'll provide a home cooked meal for you.

Just wanted to thank you G4C for helping us future cadets out.

I will make sure to remember that Darla! Definitely take you up on that.
