Hello! I was recently admitted to Vassar under early decision. I have strong interest in joining an acapella group. I was wondering about the reputation of each of the groups, and what ones generally have the most competitive auditions? Also, which groups rehearse the most?

I can’t answer your question. I WILL say that when I attended in the early 80s, few things made me smile like a random appearance of Measure 4 Measure in ACDC to try out a couple new songs. Whatever group you join, you will be part of many people’s favorite memories of their time at VC.

chocolatepretzel congrats on being admitted to Vassar! In the absence of other responses to your query, I will add a few general thoughts gleaned from a daughter who graduated in 2011: “Miller’s Minstrels” (sp?) is (was) one of the best groups, there are a huge number of groups (including all womens’ groups, other specialties, etc.), not sure about rehearsals. Groups are often featured at Parents’ weekend functions, commencement, etc., and are incredibly talented.

Congratulations on your acceptance to Vassar! A good friend of S1 participated in an acapella group and really enjoyed it. We heard several of the groups perform at parents weekend and other functions and they sounded great. There is even a whistling group! Lots of variety and choices…
