ACC to UT transfer

Hey there, I’m an Austin Community College freshman student looking for some friends who are in the same shoes as me! I was not in the top 7% of my high school, and got rejected by UT the first time. So I saw an opportunity to save money and get good grades at ACC rather than CAP. I plan to apply for transfer admission for the fall of 2016.

I took dual credit classes in high school, and although they were great because I can graduate college early now, they really hurt my GPA because of how much I slacked off. Right now I have a 3.3, and at the end of the coming fall semester I’ll have a 3.58. I realize that this is slightly below average for transfers to UT. However, I am applying to Government, and I also have an internship with the city government of my hometown for the next year.

So I’m really looking for any tips from people who have made this transfer before, particularly on essays and stuff? Should I be communicating more with a UT admissions counselor right off the bat? Any comments would be really appreciated.

Thanks
