I am non-native English speaker, who came three weeks ago to the US. The first time one girl said me I had an accent, I took it as an offence. Yesterday, when I was hanging out with some friends, my friend said that I must have 1000 girlfriends (this time I took it as a compliment). And then one girl said that even my accent is worth much. So what I am really interested in is if accent makes people more attractive in the US, or was it just a joke?

oh god, an indian/arabic girl with an accent...if your attractive in the first place...adds on to the attractiveness

on average, accents are pretty hot. for guys, i think french and italian accents are the hottest. would have to say that asian and middle eastern accents not so much, but they certainly can be. as long as your accent isn't ridiculously bad, but more of a natural thing when you speak english, it's very nice to have.

Accents sound exotic, and nine times out of ten exotic=attractive.

I think girls with British accents are quite... cool (ahem).

yes. in general, accents tend to be attractive to people. of course it depends on the accent and the person. i think its hott when a girl has a european accent. i dont think asian or a jamacan accents are hot.

accents are hot, hands down. don't worry, it's not a bad thing.

I am a guy. I am European from Central Europe.

^I tell people I love their accent all the time...I hope they aren't taking it as a joke! It really is cool to hear for most Americans.

We have an ugly accent and people laugh at us when we try to speak other languages :). And we're so nice to everyone else, too :P.

I think guys with British accents are awesome.

In the U.S., having an accent is usually considered sexy.

Your accent also may cause very nice people who are interested in global issues, international travel, etc. to seek you out. Some even may be very familiar with your home country including having lived there.

Please don't be like one of my former friends, who was from Eastern Europe. At one of my parties, another friend asked her where she was from. My former friend ignored the question -- twice, which was very rude. My friend who asked the question did so because she herself spoke Russian and had a great interest in Eastern Europe. In choosing to ignore the question, my former friend missed a nice chance to have developed a friendship with a very nice person. Her behavior, which hurt my friend's feelings and embarassed me greatly, also is why I refer to her as my "former" friend.

Your accent is guaranteed to be really cool. European accents are HOT on men and women. Don't be embarrassed if someone comments on your accent or asks where you're from. 99% of the time, it's a compliment in America, trust me.

Accents are definitely hot. Many girls ae intrigued by foreign accents. Especially european accents.

Accents are definitely a plus, particularly European ones.

What if you don't have an accent at all? I mean....neither a European accent, American, Australian, Asian but a mix of all of them?

That's me :-/

^hmm...weird. but more interesting than american, that's fo' sho'.

Depends on the accent. I agree that most Asian accents aren't so attractive (although on occasion they can be), but a lot of European accents are (not so fond of French, but I LOVE Irish accents!)

^yes...irish is def hot. seriously, it's pretty attractive when someone speaks a language you know fluently AND another language (preferably being their native so that they have the accent) that you don't, not matter what it is.

What? i think Asian accents are hotter than european accents.

You know, I've always thought that in my home country I knew two languages -- my native language and English; but here in the US, I knew only English, since my native language is native for only about 4 millions people worldwide, and no one really cares here about my native language. Have I been wrong?
