Does anyone know the admission rate for ED applicants who got deferred to regular decision? We know ED accept rate = ~29%, RD accept rate = ~16%. But what is accept rate of ED applicants who did not get accepted ED but did get deferred to RD? Thanks!

anxious to know this too

Admissions staff know ED applicants really care about Cornell. That is a powerful tiebreaker. Guess: 20% get in during regular decision. Great Fall grades would help.

thanks for advice. D did have great fall grades, including AP bio A+, rec ltr from said teacher, and an email exchange she initiated on her own (proud mom!) with a cornell bio professor. She took advantage of Cornell’s very nice invitation to send an “update letter” to her regional rep. Cross fingers! I wish everyone else the best of luck too!

Just for correction, the RD acceptance rate is definitely lower than 16ish%, which is the overall admit rate. Because the ED rate is in the high 20’s, the RD rate is generally driven down to the low teens (and possibly single digits depending on the college)

That being said, I believe that because she chose to send a good update, she will likely be favored over a RD applicant with the same profile. Whether or not deferred ED applicants are actually favored or not remains to be proven.
