<p>Also, are colored jeans allowed? Or no jeans at all? What do you wear for pants?
Thanks,
-Sara</p>
<p>Judging by your username I’m assuming you’re going to hotchkiss? I am too! Ill be a prep next fall. Well, the dress code for Hotchkiss (and many other schools) is no jeans, but colored pants are ok. It really just means no “blue denim jeans”. There’s a tumblr account called the Hotchkiss Lookbook that shows what people there wear, and it’s been really useful to me! And you can ask them questions you have about Hotchkiss dress or any other Hotchkiss questions.</p>
<p>My revisit host told me the same as Hotchkisshopes is telling you. However I also bought chinos in different colors and to be honest I kind of prefer those over colored jeans. Be on the lookout though because they said they are looking at modifying the dress code.</p>
<p>On Facebook, look at the HotchkissLookbook page</p>
<p>The fact that you are using the word “acceptable” troubles the parent in me. “Acceptable” to whom?</p>
<p>Here is all that matters when it comes to your BS wardrobe: 1) Is it in dress code?; 2) Can you/your parents afford it?; C) Do you like it? And I’d probably say those are listed in order of importance.</p>
<p>Don’t get caught up in brands…it’s all ultimately just a uniform.</p>
<p>Clothing ideas for girls:
- comfortable. Lots of walking and dress in layers because hot classrooms and rainy cold outdoors between classes.
- easy care - pick clothing that wrinkles and smudges will just blend in with, except for a couple of “special occasion” items
- figure out if you will be using the laundry service or wash/fold/iron yourself. This impacts on fabric choices, like no-iron shirts
- Girls borrow and lend clothes ALL THE TIME, so start with a few basics and see what people are wearing. You can then order that stuff from home, or have your parents take you shopping on family weekend.
- Classic “preppy” clothes are popular, because they are timeless, relatively easy care and easy to mix and match. While some brands are pricey (J Crew, Madewell, Vineyard Vines) you will be able to wear them for many years. Avoid trendy expensive designer stuff with big logos.
- Don’t forget resale stores, thrift shops and consignment stores. As noted, the classic brands tend to last forever, so it gets donated when your size changes.
- LL Bean duck boots, North Face and Patagonia are popular for the winter. They are each guaranteed FOREVER and often get use for 20 years.</p>
