Acceptance at UIUC. Anyone going for sure?

Just wondering how many people from this forum got accepted at UIUC?

Those who did get accepted are you planning to go?

I'm still waiting for Umich to reveal their admission decision :(

plz post ur stats..

My Stats:

SAT: Super Score of 2080 (math- 790, CR- 650, W-640)

SATII Math Level 1 : 670
SATII Math Level 2: 690
SATII Chemistry : 670

IB Diploma candidate

Cumulative average of around 92%(Average of all 4 years of high-school)

1 side question: Which college would be better for Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering- Georgia Tech/ UIUC or UMich??

thx

I got accepted
(BS Computer Engg./CS to UIUC, Purdue, Syracuse)

Gonna be tight deciding btwn UIUC & UMich (if I get into UM, that is)

All of dem r excellent skools on basis of academics though u might want to keep in mind Georgia Tech’s almost non-existent social scene & dreadful male-female ratio
Hence IMO,
UIUC=UMich>GA Tech

btwn UIUC & Umich, idk
according to rankings, UIUC has a slight edge in overall engg. rankings bt UM has a better mech. engg. ranking
Since I’m aiming 4 Comp. Engg./CS, I wud say UIUC (3rd best in US for CS)

BTW, don’t base ur decision on rankings coz they r at par…
just see wich 1 is d perfect ‘fit’ 4 u.

im more inclined towards UIUC… from that i hear the weather in ann arbor, flint is crap…

yeah like you said both UIUC and uMich are in the top tier for engineering colleges.

i just checked… UM is ranked 3rd for mech engineering… then georgia tech at 4th…
and UIUC at 7th… </p>

now this messes up my judgement…
lol

well, 3rd, 4th & 7th ranks don’t make a lot of difference - all 3 are stellar
for Comp. Engg., UIUC dominates dem so I’m more inclined 2wards UIUC
Also, When I checked MIT’s Comp. Sc. Department site, it listed UIUC, UC Berkeley, Stanford & Carnegie Mellon as other excellent univs for Comp. Sc.

So Yeah!
UIUC (or Umich) all the way
Man, I’m confused!!

don’t see rankings. Will you choose purdue over harvard, princeton, duke, upenn?? There is something known as prestige also. I think umich. is more prestigious compared to uiuc or gatech.

@careshwell:
harvard, duke 4 engineering! I don’t think so…
imo, A person who truly has his mind set on engg. in the first place wudn’t apply to any ivy except Cornell unless he has ivy-fetish & just wants to get the tag of ‘ivy league’ to have sumthing to brag abt to his peers & relatives…
All the best companies out there like google, microsoft noe d premier engg. deptts. of the country and thats why skools like UIUC, GA Tech r ‘prestigious’ in the eyes of the employer…

Also, I’m not saying that which skool is better among the 3 listed- I’m just speaking against ur judging of a skool by its co-called ‘prestige’

Definitely you are correct that the engineering departments are excellent at uiuc or gatech. But when we land on research harvard and duke are superior. Now, in engineering its not like you have to be in cage of engineering- infact there are a number of research projects in which inter-departmental relations shall be excellent( I am not talking about engineering departments only). Suppose there is an engineering project in which you need a lot of help of medical school then what can you do at iits or georgia tech.
Also harvard & Duke enroll more competent students so you will have to face more competition which could be beneficial.
I don’t actually think that universities like harvard or georgia tech could make some one better- but they are good only because they have nice brain. So, what type of people are there around you or in the university is something that decides which university is better and which one is not.

@carreshwell

All the Ivies (except Cornell) SUCK when it comes to engineering.
People at USNWR are not ■■■■■■■.

@carreshwell,

Sorry 4 d aggressive tone…
however, I disagree coz UIUC & GA Tech r also research-oriented univs…
so, its not like that the research (esp. related 2 engg.) wud be less than d one offered at Harvard or Duke…
otherwise UIUC wudn’t hv contributed to so many breakthrough projects (esp. in the field of CS/ Comp. Engg.)

Also on a side note, USNWR guys r nt clods…

Harvard & Duke r much better univs overall, bt when it comes 2 engg., UIUC, Ga Tech & UMich kick ass
