Someone I know who applied to UVA told me that they got a call recently telling them that they had been accepted. Is this something that UVA does, and if so, what is the process for deciding who gets called?

The callers would never say a student was admitted. We are still a few weeks away from having decisions finalized.

Students from the Virginia Society are calling some of the students who have been flagged as possible scholars programs candidates to answer questions.

My DS got one of those calls tonite--he was very excited at the prospect! But trying not to get his hopes up too much...There was nothing said about having been admitted, just that he was being considered for a scholars program.

If you're being considered for one of the scholars programs, I think there's a pretty good chance you'll be admitted...

Do all students who are being considered for the scholars program get a phone call? My oldest s received a phone call when he was a senior, but youngest s has not yet. The Echols scholar proved to be a great program for my eldest, and I sure would love the same honor for my younger s.

I didn't receive a call about the Echols program, but I did receive a "likely" letter in late february. I think they're still doing something along those lines.

The Virginia Society makes calls once or twice a week, for about six weeks. There is no guarantee that they can call every student. They try to call as many as they can.

Friend got a call for Echols program last week.

Dean J. I have searched the UVA website but can't find the Virginia Society. (Probably just overlooking it). What is it?

The Virginia Society is a group that makes calls to prospective students. You can find all CIOs (Contracted Independent Organizations) on the student activities website. CIO is our term for a student org or club.

Thank you! There it is right on the website!

No call for me. :(

I knew those SAT scores would kill me!

I got a call but I'm not looking too deep into it. Still waiting patiently for decision...

Reread post #7.

My S, currently a 2nd year and also an Echols Scholar, recieved no phone call.

Dean J, Is it fair to say that these phone calls from the Virginia Society are informative in nature and not part of an "interview" process. In other words, do the students who call provide feedback to admissions or the "selection" committee for the scholars programs?

The Virginia Society doesn't take notes on their calls. There is no feedback mechanism.

Yeah I was wondering about these calls, cause I just got one about being considered for Echols scholar or something.
So they mean nothing?

Of course they mean something for heaven's sake! If they go through the trouble to call you and tell you that you're being considered for Echols do you really think it's just for the heck of it??"

harold, stop being stupid. kthnksbye
