Acceptance Chances to Deerfield, Choate, Lawrenceville, and Andover?

@Golfgr8 yeah, i had them at a TSAO event.

I live in central FL and I can’t visit any of the schools. So I’m doing my other interviews online and one with an alumni

@Happytimes2001 I would consider the verbal section to definitely be high school level. I doubt that the average high schooler could do well on it.

But the quantitative is unquestionably high school level. It has Geometry which is a 10th grade subject and Algebra 1 which is 9th grade. The only middle school level questions I would say are like addition and subtraction questions that I saw.

I found the reading to be easy, but I also excel at the subject and have been reading at a high school level since 3rd grade.

It also is very difficult because I go to a really bad public school.

I just took the test and got a 70th percentile without studying (I’m studying then retaking it). But at my public school I’m the one of the top 3 students in my grade out of 400 kids based off of test scores, grades, etc. and I did relatively poor.

Honestly, I just feel like I have a massive disadvantage compared to the majority of applicants who go to good public schools or private schools.

Ok - good @ens2006! Be sure to mention that you interviewed at the TSAO event in Florida. Do reach out to coaches. Remember that its XC season now in NE, so coaches might be really busy. Do follow up with a thank you note to the AO’s you met. FWIW we did a few interviews at a TSAO event and then followed up with coaches. If you have times or news-clips/postings from your school about your XC success include that in your emails. Keep positive! It took a while for some coaches to get back to us - but following up with the AO lets them know you are serious.

FWIW< Thacher has a fantastic cross country program… Thacher runners get recruited to top colleges…

@Golfgr8 i don’t really have any clips or like times recorded ? So my school has XC meets but they don’t record them, and I did Track one season at school bc it was the first time they offered it. So the program was really bad. I’m doing club Track this year, but I won’t start until February.

I sent a hand written thank you note to all of the AOs that interviewed me the day after the interview. I pretty much wrote that I would love to be accepted into their schools, and I couldn’t wait to continue the admissions process and hopefully be accepted.

I’m decent at XC, but I really excel in Track. My season will start after I submit my apps, so I’ll update the schools if I receive anything notable before March.

@CaliMex thanks for letting me know!

@ens2006 Actually, your XC and track scores might be recorded. For track and XC there are several online portals. If you are running regional level meets scores are there, if you ran in the States or state finals they are there, if you have ever run in a local 5K, they are online too. If you ran Junior Olympics they are online too ( regional and national) Check coolrunning, athletic.net, and others. Even if your school doesn’t do an online record, others schools will so you can get your time there. Go to the specific meets. You should be able to get your PR’s in all events.

Regardings you SSAT scores, there might be a way to put in that you had the highest score in the school. It’s true there are regional/town differences in public schools. In our area in public school, 8th graders took Algebra I and it had some geometry so kids were already exposed to that. 7th grade was pre-Algebra and I don’t know how far they went but it was enough that kids regularly got decent SSAT scores.

Don’t give up. Sometimes these coaches are also teachers are get really busy.Thats why you should also contact the asst coaches as well.As the deadlines get closer they all sit down and discuss the applicants and you will be in everybody’s email! This will show that you are committed and interested.
