My S is getting very nervous after visiting UDel today because the average GPA and sat that they described as the average for the incoming Freshman is higher than he has seen online. He has a 3.59 weighted GPA (unsure of unweighted), he takes 2 AP classes this year and has taken them throughout high school, does EC outside of school, and got an 1890 on the SAT, 1250 on reading and math. We are from NJ and people also say it’s harder to get in if you are OOS… Any reply is greatly appreciated!
While it certainly is true that OOS competition for admission has been steadily increasing IMHO your son has a decent chance for acceptance unless he is applying to the most competitive majors at UD (i.e. Chemical Engineering, Nursing, and a few others). UD is unique among all Flagship State Universities in that over 2/3rds of the freshman class is made up of OOS students. This gives UD more of a flare of being a private university as compared to most all other state universities where 75-80% (or more) are in-state students. Good luck.
He was planning on Computer Science but they said that that is apart of Engineering and they only accept 65 students, so he is thinking about Biology… Thank you for the reply
