Acceptance depend on major?

I am graduating from a community college in December with my AA degree. I have already applied for spring transfer to NYU, Vassar, Brandeis, Emory, Smith, University of South Florida, Flagler College, and Loyola U Chicago.

I have a decent college GPA at 3.75 with decent ECs. Some of the above are obvious reaches for me, but I what I'm wondering is how much the acceptance rates vary for the different majors? I am an education major and I'm wondering if it might easier/harder for me to get into these schools based on that? Does it even matter what your major is? Do they accept so many people in each major?

I would greatly appreciate any feedback on this! Thanks!

It will depend on the school, as far as I know. I doubt the variance across schools would be significant, mostly depending on their department size & how many transfers they accept. I go to Flagler currently & Education is a big program here. They do tend to have higher acceptance requirements but your GPA is pretty good. Flagler is also very welcoming to transfers. Sorry I can’t be of more help! Good luck.

Not so much your major as which school within the University you apply to. It depends on the competitiveness of the school, for instance Wharton has a lower acceptance rate than Penn’s Arts and Sciences school. Universities typically have a separate “school of education,” so you should look up stats for those individually, but they should be pretty close to the University’s overall acceptance rate. Hope this helps!

Thanks hotdogseller, that is actually what I mean to ask. I meant the individual school within the college, not major. I was just wondering if there was a difference. For example, I know NYU Stern is extremely competitive and surely it must be easier to get in to Steinhardt. I suppose it doesn’t really matter a whole lot since I already applied. I am just feeling so anxious because I really don’t want to go to school in Florida and I just want to be accepted to one of the other schools, just one, I don’t care which one because I like them all, but I can’t stand waiting for the decision. I would probably feel better if I felt I was more competitive with my stats. Thanks for the reply!

You’ll probably get into nyu and brandeis

Thanks. I pretty much applied to NYU as a long shot because my sister is applying to Tisch for the fall. Not a long shot because of the acceptance, but long shot because they basically give no financial aid to transfers :frowning:

I would definitely be overjoyed with Brandeis. I have some good ECs I think. I am a volunteer teacher assistant in a special needs class, I am a high school cross country coach, and I have another part time job teaching knitting. I thought it was good because they all relate to my major. I have more but they don’t relate, i.e. rape crisis advocate, competitive figure skater for 11 years, varsity cross country in high school, special olympics coach for figure skating, those are a few. On the downside, by hs gpa was a 3.0 and I have some Ws on my college transcript, even though I re-took them and got As.
