Does the $400 acceptance deposit go towards tuition/other costs or is it just another Cornell "ripoff"?

Lol...I would hardly specifically call it a CORNELL rip-off. Every school that I've personally looked at has an acceptance deposit fee. My common state school was only $200, but I suppose Ivy League schools would be more. Granted, it is a COMMON rip off though XD

As far as I know, it is not a rip-off at all. I believe it is credited to the bursar account, which can be used to pay for some expenses such as tuition and room & board. Therefore, I think you will see those $400 again.

Perhaps you should look up the term 'deposit'?

It just goes to your bursar account. It's like credit.
If you were lucky to get a deposit fee-waiver, that $400 goes there.

The $400 is credited to your tuition bill....it is by no means a "ripoff"

LOL..thank you CayugaRed for making me look like an idiot. I know that 'deposit' usually refers to an initial/partial payment, but I have been in situations where this definition was not upheld by my current college. I just wanted to make sure that this was the case, because I'm pretty clueless as to how the bursar system at Cornell works.

Anyway, thanks to those who replied...
