Acceptance Fee

I was wondering if anyone could provide advice on the OSU $100 acceptance fee. We’re pretty sure that my son is attending.

Should we pay it now (even if he decides not to go)----I’ve heard that the sooner you pay the fee, your chances increase for a better housing assignment?

In the past, additional items are sent out according to when the acceptance fee is received. This includes housing forms and summer orientation sign-ups. It is best to try and go to the earliest summer orientation that you can, so that you have the widest choices of classes. It seems as if almost all students are able to get into the courses they need, but the later you sign up, the less choice you will have as far as what time the courses are offered. For students in the Honors college, orientation is after all of the other freshman, so that results of AP tests can be figured into the decision about what to take or what level to start off in. Compared to many other colleges, the $100.00 acceptance fee is quite low–many other places will want far more, and some also require housing deposits, etc. I guess that the best thing to do is to take into consideration how likely your child will go to OSU, and what month other places will send out their decisions, some won’t come out until April, and that’s a long time to wait to send in the $100 deposit.

Unless money is tight, I would pay it now – especially if your son is probably attending. The earlier you pay it, the earlier you get housing forms and the better chance he has of getting his first choice.
