My acceptance came in the mail the other day with the news of my selection as a Trustee Scholar. It's great to be accepted and all -- $20K a year is also veeryyy nice -- but, right now, I'm not sure whether I'll be attending the school seeing as I haven't heard from anyone else and was deferred from my top choice.

What do I do now? Do I send them a letter telling them I've received the information? Do I tell them I'm uncertain? Do I do nothing?

You can attend the Trustees Scholar Day on March 25. We will. DD wants to spend more time on campus, see if it feels right. She, too is waiting to hear from a number of other schools, but the $$ makes a big difference.

iiiifonly, congratulations on receiving a Trustee Scholarship! Other schools will most likely send you their decisions in late March and from your acceptances, you will need to decide by May 1 where you will attend and send in the deposit. You have heard from HWS early because they really want you and have given you a substantial scholarship. Have you been to HWS before? If so, that’s useful but it would be good to check it out again. My son visited twice. If you haven’t visited, I strongly recommend you go and it would be best if you attend the Trustee Scholars day so you can see who your potential classmates would be.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to post them, and again, congratulations!

So… Today was Trustee Scholar’s Day, which was great and all (if a little rainy). But I’m slightly confused.

I had an interview with an English prof today and had no idea why; I simply assumed it was to get to know my interested major a little better. Later on in the day, I was made aware that there would be a selection of three students who would get full tuition based on these “interviews.”

I suppose my questions are as follows:

1) Did all Trustee Scholars have interviews?
2) Is that “full tuition” thing true? And, if so, when do we find out?

iiiiifonly, I’m glad you enjoyed Trustee Scholar’s Day. Here is what I’ve found on the HWS website:

"Trustee Scholarships are awarded to 50-60 students each year and winners are selected by the Admissions Committee.

Trustee Scholar winners are invited to campus for a recognition day, and from that group the full-tuition Hersh and Wood Scholars will be selected. The Trustee Scholar recognition day will be held in late March 2010.

Trustee Scholars are awarded $20,000 annually."

So, to answer your questions, all Trustee Scholars had interviews and if you are not selected to be a full-tuition scholar, you will receive $20,000 each year. I hope the interview went well and you receive the full-tuition, but I don’t know when the results will be made available. You will need to call the Admissions Office to find out.

iiiiiiiifonly: Congratulations! Would you mind sharing your Stats?! I’m looking into the same scholarship for the 2011 school year, and curious to see the profile of someone who received the scholarship.
