Acceptance Help??

Hi, I applied to Iowa Young Writer's Workshop and didn't get in, and I was just wondering if this means I'm a bad writer?!?! I mean I know they always say "don't take this as a rejection of your writing," but I can't help but feel like it is. I get straight A's, so I know it wasn't my transcript which was the problem, so the only thing I can thing of that would lead them to reject me are my essays and my writing sample. I'm really confused, because another girl I know who absolutely hates writing and isn't very good at it applied because her mother forced her to, and got in, whereas I really love writing and was even offered a chance to get published when I was younger. I would just really like to know if there's certain things they look for on their application/essays that maybe I missed, or anything basically, that could lead to my rejection?? I'm really torn up about it and some possible feedback would really help :D I also live out of state, but I feel like that couldn't be such a big determining factor. Thank you so much!

Don’t take this personally. There are just plain way more good applicants for that program than there are spaces.
