I've been curious about this and I've always wanted answers but I couldn't find it anywhere so I thought that I might just ask it here; I hope I will get some answers but if none of you CC peoples know then that's alright with me too.

Let's just say hypothetically speaking, I get into NYU's Tisch School of Arts for Fine Arts, but I'd also like to double major in something business related. Would I be able to obtain a degree in business during undergrad as well without being accepted into NYU's Stern School of Business?

You must be accepted into Stern to do a major in Stern. You can do a minor without getting into that school but definitely not a major. This prevents people from getting into an easier school and suddenly doing a major at the school that they really wanted to get into. You will have to do another application later on for Stern (I believe it’s a different application) and see if they will accept you. You can start taking business courses but it won’t count towards a major until you’re accepted.

Thanks Vihzel; so I can minor in business but not get a degree in it right? Would I still be able to apply for Stern for graduate school with a minor in Business?

That… I’m not too sure of as I’m not familiar with the graduate process of Stern. You would be at a disadvantage as graduate business school is basically for business students or have strong business backgrounds. I’m sure you’ll have to have several years experience in the business field as you’re not majoring in business. You’d have to convince them that you want to really go to graduate business school and are serious about business.
