Wow! Congratulations! That's an awesome amount of money!
:P Wish I can get scholarship... Hahahahah.. haha... ha.

I got in!

here in Seattle

rita

Congratulations!!!!!!

D was rejected, Oxy was her first choice. <3 broken

SAT: 1930 multiple sittings (CR 650, M 580, WR 700); 1860 single sitting; SAT II Lit 640, Spanish 560
GPA: 3.28 UW, 3.5 W, Upward trend, best grades first semester senior year
Rank: Extremely rigorous pvt high school doesnt rank, but this would be in bottom 50% of GPA distribution distribution
Courses: Lots of honors and AP (AP US History, Honors Chem, Honors Eng 11, Honors Hist 11, AP Stat, AP Art History, Honors Adv Span, AP English). Not the most rigorous program available at this school, but not the least.
Recs: Very good overall, excellent on personal qualities
ECs: Very good, showing leadership, depth, contributions
Essays: Very good, heartfelt "Why Oxy?" essay
Interview: Good
Interest: Visited twice, met with coach and choral music director
Strengths/weaknesses: Biggest weakness is GPA, being compared to other applicants from her school ? Strengths include personal qualities, English/writing, ECs, interest. Weak in science, with some Cs.

Most other students at D's high school who apply to Oxy consider it a safety (last resort, even), and very few enroll each year (0-2 out of class of approx 80).

Not sure what went wrong. Oxy lost out on a student who really wanted to be there, and who would have had no difficulty succeeding there. Sigh.

accepted with 5,000 a year in the honors program. yay! this is the first time living in new york has actually worked to my advantage in college decisions.

ha kellyconn, i did mean an acceptance letter. i realize now that i read over what i said, it acutally really seemed like rejection, what with the lack of enthusiasm! thanks for concern =p !

rix, sorry to hear about the outcome, hope your daughter is ok with things........although we all know these things work out for a reason, sometimes its hard to deal with that cold hard rejection at first. I felt that way with BU, but am over it now and realize its not pesonal. Where else has she applied and got in? I hope its a school she will be excited to attend, all the best!

kellyconn1: Thanks. She has other choices (UCSB, UCD, UCSC, Denison, Willamette, Puget Sound, Oregon) but they all represent some kind of compromise in comparison to Oxy. Still waiting to hear from a couple more, including Whitman. Keeping my fingers crossed for that one. She'll be ok, I'm sure. She's very resilient. How about you? Are you headed for California?

Congratulations to all of you who have received your acceptances! I'm dying from the slow mail wait up here in Northern Wisconsin, can anyone tell me how the letters are arriving? regular us mail? priority? fedex?

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

fedex .

waitlisted...

accepted... mail to wisconsin is really slow.

Accepted RD.

does anyone know the chances of getting in off the waitlist?

I don't know about Oxy, but I was waitlisted at Pomona and Amherst and they both say there's less then a 10% chance of getting off the waitlist. Then again, those schools are a lot more selective than Oxy so that number probably doesn't apply here.
