According to today's Collegian, Penn State will start sending out acceptances next week. I'm hoping our S is among this early batch, so we're not in suspense for another month or two (or longer).

yes they start sending acceptances/rejections november first right?

momwriter could you give a link to the article?

Sure, here it is. If you go down towards the bottom, the Director of Admissions says letters will start going out next week.

Some offers of admission have already been sent out, and admissions officials will begin extending offers to attend University Park next week, she added.

They already started sending them out. They're just going to continue sending out more next week.

omg...walcott I'm terrified too! If I don't hear back soon I'm going to go crazy. I just have to keep my mind off of it I guess.

Good luck guys! Be sure to fill us in on the good news!

im kinda nervous now hah, i sent my app in in late september, and i have a feeling ill be one of the first ones to know, so maybe 1-2 weeks for me.

What determines whether an acceptance is given in November, December or January ? Three years ago, my daughter received her acceptance to UP in mid November. We are waiting patiently to hear the news for our son who had a completed app the first week in September. Wow, 19,000 applicants so far... that's unbeleivable.

with no improvement on my SAT and only a 3.6 GPA, I think I'm out of the running.
Good luck to all of you!!!

According to The Collegian, decisions started going out last week, with University Park decisions beginning next week.

Good luck to all!!!

Yes, that's the way I took it, too - general PSU decisions started last week, with UPark decisions starting next week.

Last year, we sent oldest S's app very early, but his GC was so slow that the paperwork didn't reach PSU until the day before the deadline, so they didn't make a decision until Feb. 5. This time, all of the paperwork was there early so we're hoping for a quick decision.

When I look at my application status page, I no longer can see the 'send/check email'. I'm wondering if that means my decision has been made? Its weird, because I did send an email to change to summer as an option, and they responded, but I can't see the emails anymore. Thats the only thing thats different about my status page. I sent in my app the end of August, but my gc did not send in the transcript until the middle of september.

I received an email suggesting to apply to honors college because they noticed I looked at that section of "My Penn State" account. Do you think they would send this if you didn't get in or is it sent to everyone who looks at this section?

it's the same with me CBD..i applied at the end of august but my transcript wasn't sent and processed until late september, early october. will that affect when i'll get a decision?

yes it will effect you guys whose applications were not completed until much later then when you submitted online. PSU will not review your app until everything is in, and since they review and admit on a rolling basis, your app gets put to the bottom of the pile. So don't expect a letter anytime soon. PSU likes to take their time on this. My year I submitted my app in Aug, heard about thanksgiving. Friends submitted in October, didn't hear back till the new year.

Don't fret though, if everything is in by their "priority" deadline, they will give equal consideration to your app compared to one that was completed in early September.

okay so it's all about your completed app? i think mine was completely in with everything in by end of september.

Do the send out the first letters based on who submitted just their application sooner or is it based on who submitted their application AND transcript/test scores sooner?
