God help me - living in Canada, I have to wait until Tuesday. Stupid Easter Monday/no Saturday mail.

^love the red sox and so ready for the game tomorrow! To answer the question, financial aid is in the package as well as brochures and general information about visiting and other stuff all in a pretty red folder :)

is there a decal in it? or any free stuff? princeton gave out a decal with theirs. maybe i can sell it on ebay.

mushmouse: you can ask them to recalculat eit. tell them you want to go there but financially, Princeton and yale are much better. and they’ll usually give you more money.

I agree with natim - Harvard is usually willing to match, or at least discuss FA awards from other schools.

(They’re not going to match a merit/athletic scholarship though).

This is the packet. Read up.

[Harvard College Freshman Dean’s Office Mailings](http://www.fdo.fas.harvard.edu/icb/icb.do?keyword=k3806&pageid=icb.page71465)

I got mine, and, OMG, my FA should be in the Louvre, it’s so beautiful.

Someone wrote “Hope you’ll join us!” on my letter. How cute <3.

@Millancad - That “someone” is Dean Fitzsimmons, the head of admissions!

got mine today. trifold is soo much snazier than princeton’s. but princeton spent almost twice as much on postage!

the little “Hope you’ll join us” is on all of them I bet. Wow, I wonder if he has an assistant to sign it.

who should we contact to discuss financial aid?

financial aid office…

but do you think it is better to email or just call?

How important is it to you? If it were me, I’d call.

My daughters Harvard FA is really low comparing to say Princeton or Yale (to be more specific - almost ten times lower). Why is that? Is that common that Harvards FA is so much different from that of other schools; or its just us?
Any information/thoughts/clarification is really appreciated.

My aid from Princeton and Yale were pretty similar: no parental contribution, around $3000 of work-study, and a summer contribution ranging from $1000-$1500. But I don’t think it’s normal for it to be ten times lower unless Harvard does not consider assets like Princeton and Yale does (I’m unsure because as you can tell, we have no assets).

I am also quite disappointed, my daughter’s FA package from Harvard is the worst. They must have a very different way in calculating the number.

I guess it must just depend on the family. I finally got my harvard packet yesterday, and their financial aid is my best offer. As an upper-middle class family, we would get $34,500 in aid, whereas the next best offer (yale) is around $29,000… thank goodness harvard is my first choice, since it’s the best deal for me :)

If harvard really is your first choice though, I would try talking to the financial aid office & see if they can match another school’s finaid (NOT MERIT) offer.

My financial aid packets from Princeton and Stanford were identical and unexpectedly generous. I could attend either Princeton or Stanford with nearly no contribution. When I received my Harvard offer, I was utterly shocked. As impossible as it may sound, Harvard beat both universities by almost $1,000 and offered me what they called “one of the most generous financial aid awards available.”

A scholarship I received means all three universities would cost me nothing. I’m essentially set on Harvard.

Same here. For me, the financial aid offer from Harvard was amazing.
