I am confused by some of the numbers. The stats pages on rating lists etc tend to indicate that Northwestern has a 22%-25% acceptance rate. However, I read that the deans office is expecting over 30,000 applications this year and if there are only 2,200 freshman wouldnt that indicate an acceptance rate of closer to 8%?

If that 30,000 number also includes graduate students, then does anyone know the number of people that are applying as first year freshman?

I guess my being so pumped about being accepted it never dawned on me that anybody would say ‘no thank you’ :D

I guess had it gotten that far (I applied ED) i would have turned down Duke, Cornell and maybe even Dartmouth for Northwestern but I guess there were a couple of schools that would have been a tougher decision if I had also been accepted.

lilahozi is right…you have to take into account the yield. Last year, 27,500 applied and 23% were accepted based on estimates of how many would accept the offer of admission in the end.

I read that they’ve filled ~100 extra slots ED this year, so I’d think that might push the overall acceptance rate a little lower this year since they get ~100% yield on the ED acceptances, true?
