TheProtagonist, thanks for the sarcasm. much appreciated.

University of Minnesota, College of Biological Sciences.

While Duke has a much bigger name, due to the degree i am searching for, and future goals, UM is actually a better school for me. Trust me, i would give my left arm to go to Duke, and i still would love to go to Duke for grad school. but Duke doesnt even offer a degree in Genetics - so idk. Im happy with my decision haha.

and btw, i am a 1:16 time stamp.

Actually, yellowbird, Duke does offer a genetics program.

Is the article implying that they almost used a SAT score cut-off to see if the applications went to further evaluation or not?

They offer a certificate in Genome sciences and policy. I am looking for a B.S in Genetics, Cellular and Developmental Biology so that i can go on to get my PhD. Like i said, i would give almost anything to go to Duke - i hope i can get there for my MD/PhD

You need to read the article more carefully. If you have a 760 in one section, then it would be considered an upper 700’s IMHO. And no, they don’t merely look at the SAT scores. Remember- one reason the admissions process takes so long is because of the multiple reviews the adcom gives each application. Scoring the SATs, essays, etc. is only part of their method.

The pit in my stomach is unbearable, now after reading that article it’s even worse. The thing that is most depressing is that we are all great students and we have all probably gotten acceptances from some great places. But of course, we are all obsessed with this decision. I should be so proud of myself for getting into Northwestern and I can’t even be happy for myself because I am too worried about Duke. Honestly, if we get rejected we probably weren’t meant to be there. Sad, but true. Let’s be happy for ourselves for once!!

Oh man, I thought I had an itty bitty chance of acceptance but after reading that article that tiny piece of hope has disappeared. Oh well, I’m now prepared for the worst.

ive been deferred at nw, wustl, and vandy…any hope of duke acceptance is now very slim…and its a shame because its my favorite of those 4 schools and my overall dream school…

Wow. That article made me depressed, alright.

All I can say is: YIKES!!! And with multiple people applying from my school who are all very qualified (top 10%, 2300+), I’m kinda scared lol.

I bet the time stamp thing is just some Duke Grad Student’s stupid psychological experiment, some guy who’s writing his thesis on teenage logical thought processes. The correlation will turn out to be, like, whether there are an odd or even number of vowels in a given student’s name or something. Damn you, Unnamed Grad Student who’s already been accepted to Duke!

haha totally agree with you praise! I think we are magnifying an insignificant component of the application based on pure superstition and paranoia. But then again, that is human nature and would make for a great psych experiment =)

The article makes it seem as if the SAT score is the most important part of the application. The SAT seemed emphatic in the article.

It was probably the most emphatic because everyone can relate to it.

i think its not fair for duke to automatically reject the lower third of the applicants. we pay +$60, not even to have our applications reviewed by a person, but only by machines who sort out the applications?

do you guys think Christoph Guttentag lied about the SAT cut-off not existing for Duke!

Trust me, there is no cut-off lol. I have friends with SAT scores all over the place.

They read those applications (e.g.; a human being did read them). They were just not borderline/auto-admits and thus were not discussed in committee.

whats the lowest SAT score that you know of that has gotten into Duke?
