That's a drop from last year.

oh man my chances of acceptance are close to nil now :(

hah hah so much for cornell being the easiest ivy to get into. class of 2010 is something special, now we can move from the image of being the black sheep of the ivy-in admissioin rates.but i think the acceptance rates across the ivy league will drop also but not as much as cornell

do you think there were alot of increased apps for the college of human ecology?

Does anyone have the 2010 admit rates for the other ivies?

What's the CAS acceptance rate?

CAS usually has a relatively low acceptance rate for RD

If overall dropped to 21% you can expect CAS to be <20% this year.

21% is excellent, but it will probably still come in 8th amongst the Ivies...I believe Penn's acceptance rate was 21% last year, and it will surely be a tad lower this year. Still, this trend is encouraging (well, maybe not for prospectives, but moreso for the U.S. News and World Report :))

just give it a while, i'm sure that within the next few years (or maybe even next year) the acceptance rate will dip into the teens.

This will be good since acceptance rate is clearly the only indicator of prestige and program quality. (note: that was sarcasms in case anybody didn't get it)

As long as it doesn't drop to 0 there's nothing to worry about.

but its SAT scores are problematic,

Penn, Brown, Columbia =/> than 1430

Cornell = 1385

it is really kind of embarassing

see what they're like when Cornell finally releases the scores. It will always be less than the other ivy schools that are less than half the size, but most people realize this.

thats why you go into cornell engineering, i believe SAT scores are around 1460

With 21% admit rate, that means that we had (as the article stated) 28000 applicants to choose from. I would expect an increase in SAT scores since there are 35% more to choose from as compared with the Class of 2008.

I remember hearing that the CAS acceptance rate last year was 18%? Is this true or was this just for RD? I DO know that CAS is typically the lowest acceptance rate.

I think the lowered acceptance rate can only mean good things for Cornell for the reason that when I graduate and look for a job, or maybe 20 years down the road, the value of "Cornell" on the degree is mostly due to the presitige then, not now. I think that "hot" schools probably will suffer from this in the future.

But correct me if I am wrong. :)

I can't believe the amount of pretentiousness on this board. "Oh I'm so happy that Cornell's acceptance rate is lower this year so I can look smarter than I really am, I just hope that one day it will be as low as Harvard or one of the other ivies." It really makes me sick. I used to think that people in the Ivy League were cool, intelligent people, but apparently I was direly wrong.

The point of getting an education isn't to impress other people, or to make yourself look better, it's to educate yourself. Most of you don't deserve the amount of resources made available to you by Cornell. There are some people out there who are hurt by a lower acceptance rate who actually deserve it much more than you ignorant snobs.

lol... texans

Yes, let's judge the entire character of the ivy league based on a message board, which is clearly a representative sample. Good job.
