But if Admissions views 750/750 more favorably than 800/700, why isn’t 800/800 viewed more favorably than 750/750? 800/800 is even more difficult to achieve with fewer doing so, and they must be thinking of probabilities and degree of difficulty to judge that 750/750 is better than 800/700. Yes, shades and institutional needs start to come into play - but only after you clear the hurdle? What if you were just below the hurdle but fulfill some institutional need? This has to cut both ways - if they can dip down a bit to grab those applicants under a “holistic” process, they need to make it up on the other end with top scores. That implies that an 800/800 is worth MORE than - not equal to - a 750/750.
They don’t view a 750 more favorably than an 800. But an 800/800 doesn’t turn some magic tide. We say this often on CC. A kid doesnt need to retest to get closer to 800. He needs to turn to the rest of the app. He needs to have some idea of the rest of what they need to find.
It’s not that all attributes are the same. It’s that they all matter, as part of the “whole” picture.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
The original question was a fairly straightforward one: “What is the acceptance rate for Yale when you apply ED?” I believe that question has been answered. The last 3 or 4 pages just seems to be debate over minutiae from parents who have been around long enough to know that such debate is pointless, as well as against the rules. Closing thread.
