Acceptance Rate into Berkeley's Japanese Major?

I apologize for the pretty specific question as a newcomer on this site - but I am quite curious. I have sent out a message to an Outreach Assistant at Berkeley, but haven't received a response yet =/ .

So does anyone around here know? Or just how difficult it is to get into the major? And also, does anyone have any recommendations beyond what I can do to show my passion in Japanese other than doing quite well in my courses and getting good recommendations?

Thank you so much. Really appreciate it.

Japanese ia a very competitive major in Berkeley. It’s advised that you obtain at least the Japanese citizenship before ever applying. Please note that students who’ve got into the major lived in Japan for an average of more than 10 years. Most of them have already finished graduate degrees in Japanese from top-notch universities in Japan, such as Tokyo University and Kyoto University.

I’m not sure if the above poster is serious but I have heard similarly extreme things about the chinese major, the classes were so hard that only native speakers could pass… I hear they are dumbing it down though! :D
