I couldn't find this...What percentage of undergraduate applicants from UNC - Chapel Hill are accepted to medical school? Please don't give me a general answer about how it doesn't matter where you went undergrad and it's about GPA/MCAT, etc. or about how great the program is. I'm just looking for a number.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Also, it was my understanding that don't pre-screen because they don't even offer a committee letter. Is this true?

I have no stats to offer other than the personal experience that my son and every one of his friends that applied to med schools got in. They are currently at JHU, Harvard, UTSW, Baylor, U Kentucky, Cornell-Weill, UNC, UVA, and Emory.

UNC will not impede your chances for med school.

Does anyone else have the stat? I know most top publics (UC Berkeley, UCLA, U Michigan, etc.) report this number…Does UNC - Chapel Hill hide this and not report/publish this statistic?

I don’t think UNC “hides” anything… I think it just seems like a hard statistic to nail down. Saying that “so and so” percentage of people from UNC get into med school might give people a false sense of security. Just my opinion though!

UNC probably has the best pre-med programme in NC, with the possible exception of Duke (I am not familiar with Duke’s programme or reputation for pre med, though I am assuming that it is good.)

To put it in perspective at most NC high schools all the science/math majors aim for State, with the exception of those who want to go to med school who aim for UNC.

UNC won’t put you at a disadvantage for med school, and if you decide you want to stay in NC after med school, the UNC undergrad will get you places as far as networking goes. People here view it with near Ivy-status (rightly or wrongly).
