acceptance rate

Does anyone know the acceptance rate for UCLA this year?

seems like an absurdly high amount of acceptances. anyone else have a voice in the back of their head screaming mistake?

It’s voluntary response bias.

its actually not that high . . . its just that the people that did get accepted tend to post more often.

Probably around 20% again . . . but don’t quote me on that :P

Terry Goodkind fan?

@christiansoldier
Hahaha taking stats?

YES. I went on Facebook after rejection and I saw like 20 people saying they got accepted, then came on CC and saw that a ton more people saying the same thing. Sucks to know that I was too stupid for UCLA but all these people weren’t. :/

^ Don’t consider yourself too stupid for UCLA. I was feeling that way for a while too but consider how thousands didn’t get in (thousands did get in, but significantly fewer). They’re not very consistent/predictable with who they accept either. I say use it as motivation for wherever life takes you next and prove that you deserved to be where you think you should be. Show that it’s the school’s loss, not yours. Personally it’s still hard for me to come to grips with it but I will eventually lol Just keep that chip on your shoulder. And Grad School (assuming that’s the direction you’re aiming for) is more important than the undergrad school you go to

My daughter was accepted today and the letter said 57,000 applicants with about 4,700 accepted. But they sent out more acceptance to end up matriculating to 4700.

They said 57,000 was the largest applicant pool in the country.

As for the acceptance rate, last year UCLA admitted 12,100. They likely admitted a little less this year because of the budget crisis, but my guess is that it’ll work out to be around 19-20%.

from my letter:

For fall 2010, we received more than 57,000 applications for 4,690 available spaces for freshmen.

thats 8.2%

kevinwiz, please look up the definition of acceptance rate

^^ I don’t get it

@BrianPh: They accept more students than they have number of seats for, so they accepted far more than 4690 applicants so fill the seats. They know that most students will go elsewhere. Because of that, the acceptance rate will be over the calculated 8.2%

Oh, I see.

UCLA’s yield last year was 37%. Assuming a 40% yield, UCLA would accept 11,725 for an admissions rate of ~20.5%

^ Why are you predicting a higher yield?

It seems like a lot of factors are pointing toward a lower yield

1) students applying to more schools, meaning other places are competing for student matriculation
2) increased class sizes at UC’s
3) UC budget crisis
4) rising UC tuition

Because 40% is a round number, and the admissions office’s main goal this year should have been to avoid over-enrollment.

I find it hard to believe that UCLA’s acceptance rate lowered at all. At my school, over 15 students got in, and we’re pretty small. I want to say that over 20 got accepted, but I’m not sure.
