In the past (last year), Pomona's ED acceptance rate was 22%. About 50 people out of 228 were accepted. This year, the number of early applicants has increased to 304 (a 33% increase). Do you think there'll be a serious decrease in the percent of applicants accepted? Or might more spots be opened for this year's early applicants.

I THINK there will probably be more spots opened… but not enough that the rate will remain the same; it would probably decrease if anything but more people will be accepted.

I was told this summer at a tour, that EDs are capped at 30% of the applicants. If that’s true, the percentage will be less if they have the same number of openings.

From what I’ve read, Pomona will sometimes let up to 1/3 of their class in on ED. If that holds true- then I think it’s possible that they will do so. Given the increase in applicants this year, I think that there will be more spots granted under ED. However I bet the new dean of admissions is going to try and make a good impression for the school by lowering the acceptance rate even more, so he’ll probably try to accept more students, but still lower the acceptance rate. IF that made any sense whatsoever, it’ll be a miracle. I’m exhausted.

You make sense, sarsoccerstar! It was kind of like what I was saying. Like since the pool increased by SO much, they can accept more students but still lower the acceptance rate.

oh yay! haha well I really hope that’s the case. In a way. Maybe they’ll realize tht we’re all super awesome and amazing and they accept all of us. lol yeah right.

The 22% acceptance rate includes both rounds of ED (ED 1 and ED 2). I think in the past the ED 1 acceptance rate has been closer to 30%-- not sure how the increase in applicants for ED 1 will affect that though!

^true
ED1 acceptance rate is about 30%
Itll prob drop to around 25% this year, if the admissions accepts the same number of students as last year

It’s likely that Pomona is shooting for a slightly larger class this year as they finished building the new residence halls, which add more beds that have to be filled.

“With close to 98 percent of Pomona students now living on campus, Pomona has been stretched to its limit in recent years and has had to reduce the size of its entering class. These two new halls will help bring enrollment back to earlier levels.”
