Acceptance Rates

Does anyone know what the Brown Early Decision acceptance rate was for the class of 2013? Unfortunately the last issue of the Brown Daily Herald this semester was on Dec. 10, so it appears they haven’t published the stat themselves, unlike previous years.

yea, i really wanna know this too. the plme rates would also be helpful!

Early decision acceptance rate was 24%. 60% were deferred. 20 got into PLME.

thanks fireandrain. i can ascertain from other threads that you have connections to the admissions office, so can i assume this came from them?

20 got into PLME but how many applied? that seems like a big number...

120 applied to plme. that's a high acceptance rate for plme

how many people applied ED in total?

The letters say that about 2500 people applied early for 1485 spots in total.

If the ED acceptance rate was 24%, does it mean that 600 were accepted out of 2500 ED applicants? 1485 spots must be for both ED & RD.

Well I didn't know how many were accepted but if fireandrain's stats are correct, yes it does mean that 600 people were admitted ED.
And yeah there are 1485 places in total, not just for ED.

That 1485 is somewhat misleading...they've offered 2500-2800 spots in the past. 1485 was just the number of spots taken, so the 600 isn't part of it.

Sure it is. The 600 ED acceptances have to come off the 1485 (the normal, expected first-year class size) total, because ED is binding. So, unfortunately, the actual number of available spaces and percentage of acceptance for RD is much lower.

If there are 1485 spots, subtract 600 from that: 885. (It's actually less than 600, so lets round up to 925)

To fill 925 spots, Brown must accept more than double that, because its RD matriculation rate is less than 50%.

@fireandrain

do you know how many got rejected PLME and how many got deferred?

i feel like no one got rejected by plme lol.. that would not help my confidence

well according to my teacher....her husband's school had 2 kids apply to PLME ED a few years ago.....both got deferred...both were accepted RD....ironically, neither of them chose to go there lol....i think one of them is at JHU med or something lol

bicyclekick: no.

fireandrain,

do you have any specific advice for deferred applicants? it's obviously not very smart to be too hopeful after you're deferred i guess, but it is still moderately possible i would hope?

thank you.

they did say the acceptance rate for deferred people was almost the same as that of the regular rd pool. but that may just be because of all the plme people deferred by brown who did not want their brown decision to be binding
