I know not to base too much off of acceptance rates, but I was just looking at the stats on collegeboard because I was nervous that most of the schools I am interested in might be too competitive (not that I would take them off the list necessarily, but just that maybe I should find some addition schools). But I found that some were higher than I expected. Should I trust these numbers? Do they change much from year to year?

**some acceptance rates were higher than I expected.

They change as more or less apps come in for the same amount of slots each year. For instance, the HYPs have continued to see sinking admit rates b/c each year, more and more kids apply. Remember: admit rate is #accepted divided by #applications.

You need to look at the individual school. Brown, for example, has 21% more applicants this year than last. Many LACs have had a considerable drop in applicants. Also, in this economy, not needing financial aid at need aware schools will get lower stats kids in.

The picture is individual to the school.

anyone has any idea about nyu's acceptance rate for this year??

Where are you getting this info? In one of Papa Chicken's threads (I'll try to look for it), stats showed dramatic increases (in the 10-20% range) at some LACs. It was reasoned that this may have been due to many of the LACs new no-loan policies this year.

Edit: See link below.

NYU- since applications were up, I assume the admit rate will be about the same as last year- I think around 25% or so....
