Acceptance/Rejection Decisions + Stats

I still can't believe i'm in!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got in EDII to the Elliot School
GPA: 3.79UW, 3.91W (only weight AP's)
ACT: 30
Class rank: top 38%
Small (650 students) highly-selective school
I play a varsity sport and I've talked to a coach but I'm not getting recruited
I have leadership through the school
I am a sectional leader in a small instrumental group
I have an extensive amount of service in my community
Leadership/ Service award (1/6 girls in the state)
I have an upward grade trend (if that helps...?)
I visited, had an interview, and went to an admissions meeting that the admissions director had at my school

Congrats to all the EDI and IIs! Now what can the RD applicants expect? My parents talked me into applying RD instead of ED and I hope I didn't make a huge mistake! My GPA is 4.0, SAT 760,730,780 and I'm 24th in a class of 680. I have a lot of involvement with IR organizations, internships and work experience. What do you think - will GW have me?

Waveswatcher: Don't worry about anything. You'll probably get a lot of merit money, too.

It's a lot harder to get in RD than ED, but if you have a good essays I think you should be fine

Waveswatcher--thats really funny we have alot of similar stats--4.0, 24th (but im out of about 500ish) and sat 800 710 690. i have good leadership and community service too and GW is my first choice but my parents wanted me to do RD not ED, but its definately my first choice! so im in the same boat--very nervous! especially since its out of our control.
im also nervous because i am really extremely politically involved and i dont want to go there for the politics aspect. i just love washington and the school! does anyone have any insight into this? could it hurt me..?

**meant to say NOT extremely politically involved..whoops

Decision: Accepted - CCAS

Essay: Written as a monologue about trying to define myself (I loved it), short answer was about Model UN

Recommendations: All teachers who I love and have known me since freshman year and I’m betting they were great and then

I received a $10,000 Presidential Academic Scholarship from GWU. I am so excited to be a Colonial!!!

Thanks for everyone's response! I am getting a little crazy and want this whole college admissions thing to be over! I have traveled down to GW on a lot of occasions (my Dad has business in DC) and have seen the good and bad of GW - and I still love it. When I say the bad, I should clarify. Most of the bad is just the usual commuting around a large city without a car. The good is the commuting around a large city without a car! Ha! I love this school so cross your fingers for me and I'll do the same for you guys.

waveswatcher and liz90...try to figure out a way to let admissions know you that GW is your first choice and wanted to apply ED but couldn't! There have been a number of high gpa/test score students from my school that didn't get in over the last few years (they were waitlisted though). I think during my research, I found that to be true of last year's RD pool here on CC. Maybe you can send an email or letter to add to your file?

thanks for the advise! thats exactly what im scared of. I already asked my guidance counselor to send my mid-years and tell them that ive made it clear to her that GW is my first choice. do you think that will help? also, would it hurt to contact my regional admissions director (the lady who did my interview) and say something to her?

also, how much do you think political interest plays into the equation? thanks so much for your help!

I would contact your regional director myself and yes - make it very clear that gw is your first choice, gc is a great idea too. I am not sure about how much political interest plays into the equation unless you are an IR major...even then may not make much difference. I would think though that it may make you different if you weren't that politically motivated (science major/humanities?) which could be a plus. This would be a great question to ask your regional rep.

Wave Runner and Liz: Show real interest.. Let GW know how it is your number one choice and why. They like to see interest and a good fit. Good luck. You certainly have the stats

I got accepted with Elliot Engineering Scholarship $16,000

I guess most important thing is how good you do with the most major-related courses you have taken. Good luck everyone!

Meadesport - I just sent a continued letter of interest and brought them up to date on the Model UN conference that I co-chaired this past week. I don't want to beg them to let me in, but...

I sent a short note too. It was polite, friendly, and short, but made pretty clear that even if I couldn't formally say so by applying ED, GW is my first choice for college.

Waverunner and rednight, That should definitely help. Lots of luck to both of you

I did not know that George Washington already started informing applicants on their admission decisions!
I applied RD to Elliot...Argh, the wait is horrible.

These are all ED I and ED II admits. None of the RD applicants have heard yet.

Thanks Nbg.
