For those deferred, or waitlisted, as it was noted to my son 2 years ago - he auditioned in the first round of auditions for Elon, end of October, received his MT waitlist letter in December and was offered admission for MT in March. He elected to attend elsewhere, but Elon was an extremely close second choice. We believe Elon does a thorough job in the entire audition process and don't believe the students with early deferral letters are in any jeopardy of proper consideration. Good luck to all of you as the process continues!

Don't know how this will affect MT, but DH read yesterday that Elon is expecting to send out more acceptances this year, anticipating that more students will be turning down an acceptance for financial reasons. If you have an MT deferral, and this is your first choice school, let them know. It could make a difference.

Georgia30720, Thanks for the info! My D. hasn't mailed her thank you notes yet...maybe that's a good venue to say again, "Elon REALLY is my first choice!!" She's been accepted to the University and was deferred for MT. Am I understanding you that current situations could help with MT acceptance or did I completely misunderstand and you're saying it might help for acceptance to the University? Please forgive if I'm being an idiot...Christmas plus auditions have left me completely brain-dead!!

What DH read was in reference to the whole university, but I imagine it could impact MT as well. A student who has been accepted to the MT program might choose another school that is less expensive, offered better financial assistance, etc. And I would hope that students who have been accepted either academically or into MT but decide early on to attend another program would let the school know, to give someone else a chance.

katesmom2&5 - I greatly encourage anyone who has been accepted to the University and deferred for MT to follow up, and let the faculty know when Elon one's first choice, and perhaps detail once again why to make the letter more personal. Remember the enrollment "package" goes to the admissions office, not necessarily the MT department.

Elon is a great program, and aside from the fact that only a select group gets deferred (so congratulations to your D for that :D), and that an offer of acceptance may eventually be forthcoming upon completion of all the auditions, it is definitely also very possible that even some of those ultimately offered admission will not accept as they may have different first choices.

Sending a heartfelt thank you note expressing your excitement about the audition day, a follow up letter reiterating that Elon is your first choice school, or submitting an updated resume with additional credits, or awards as the year goes by, are perfectly acceptable ways of showing your interest in a program.

Am I correct in thinking that those applicants that are deferred will not be offered any financial award for talent and that is true for every program? I am under the assumption that all awards are exhausted before anyone clears the waitlist. I hope I'm wrong.

No, a student who is deferred can still be offered talent scholarships. :)

has anyone heard from Elon? this waiting is unbearable....

I agree!!! D. and I are both counting the hours!! Word is calls start this Friday and continue through the weekend?! D.'s show closed this past Sunday so there's nothing to hold our attention now except this constant waiting.

I know kids auditioning at Elon tomorrow and so decisions will have to wait until the auditions are completed. It won't be long.

Last year at this time my son got a call from Ms. McNeela. He wasn't home, but when she identified herself I felt good news was to follow. She followed up to my son's cell phone with the good news. I will always remember that call and the relief and happiness it brought to our family. My son is currently a freshman MT at Elon.

If it was like last year, Cathy McNeela will start making calls this weekend...but it may take several days, so don't give up hope :)

Does anyone know if calls are also made to the kids accepted into the Acting BFA? When I auditioned for MT, they asked me to do a second monologue on the spot to audition me for the Acting BFA. I figured I have a better chance getting into that major... Do they make calls for that, too?

My D just checked the online admission status. The results were released today. She is on the waitlist academically. It's not surprising since she waited until the last week of Dec to apply. However, does anyone know if that means she could not be accepted to the MT program if waitlisted academically? Does that mean a rejection? Do you know if anyone has been accepted for MT being on the academic waitlist? Thanks!

2Borno..

My D just checked Elon and her status is also waitlist. This is confusing, as it doesn't seem to give you any idea what it means for the MT program. However, she was told to check status today (vs. yesterday for everyone else), so maybe it means some kind of combined status when you are applying to an arts-related program.

I got in! Cathy called today! :)

congrats josh!
..i think i auditioned on the same day as you, we were at the same dance call.

We're trying to will the phone to ring at our house! From what I can tell between facebook and CC maybe 4 MT acceptances so far?? I'm taking heart from MotherBear's message that it can take several days for the calls to be made. I don't know whether to hope the waiting would be over or be glad that there is still an opportunity for the phone to ring! Any more news anyone?????

Also meant to post HUGE Congrats to Josh!!! Sorry to be so self absorbed in my last post. You and D. have a common acceptance...I can't wait to see where you all land. It's a priviledge to watch the journey.

I just checked in to see about acceptances. I remember last year being so nervous, and checking this site often to see if others had heard. Congrats to all of those who have heard already, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for everyone who is waiting!!
