Acceptance Rescinded

I received an acceptance from UCSC; however, my offer was rescinded due to the D which I received in my elective AP Calculus course. All of my other grades were straight "A's" so I am appealing their decision. Can anyone let me know what my chances are for still getting in?

That sucks

It sounds like you have a case. One D in an AP course, while the rest of your grades were A’s, should not warrant a rescinded acceptance. Most likely, if you’re polite but straightforward, and you apologize profusely, you will just get academic probation. However, I do not know UCSC and I cannot guarantee that. Good luck!

Was that class fulfilling one of your a-g requirements?

No. All of my a-g requirements were completed with A in each subject. It was just an elective that I decided to take.

I doubt anyone here can give you a realistic appraisal of your chances of getting this reversed. I’m sure everyone hopes that it happens, though.

Keep in mind that the UCs take into account not just a-g (which you need to be eligible at all) but strength of schedule. That D may have tripped you up in that respect but I have no inside knowledge and am just guessing.

Thank you all very much for your responses.

It’ll be easier to convince them if you’re not majoring in any math-like field.
