UD…we were VERY stressed when we received the PIP and full tuition scholarship was not listed. We had horrible thoughts of the scholarship not being in place this year or limited numbers getting it and D not making the mark. Turned out Kv was correct. It was an error. Husband contact regional rep. and was told (a day or so later) that all would be well. They WOULD NOT confirm that she was getting the Semi scholarship, only that a corrected PIP would be sent as would confirmation of any change in award. Kind of cryptic, so still stressed until it was confirmed. With your stats? You should be confident that there is an error that will be corrected. It is just the STRESS as you wait…I know.

Son had 780 verbal and 770 math. 4.0 unweighted gpa. 9 ap classes. 2 varsity sports, captain of one, national merit commended (missed by one point) and got deans with only detail being minimum of 10k. Was thinking he would get much more from fordham. When do they tell people about presidents or if more than 10k. Thanks

Where is scholarship information listed? Was it in the general letter online, or somewhere else in the online account portal? I was accepted, but no details of a scholarship were listed. Does that mean I didn’t get one? I’m just really confused.

Right there with @diceman. Does anyone have input on this?

I just called the admissions office.

My daugther is National Hispanic, 2350 SAT, 3.6 UW GPA, 4.0 W GPA

They told me that yes, they considered her for the Semifinalist Scholarship, but that it was too competitive for her to get it. That only a small percentage do get it.

Just have to wait for the PIP to see if there is enough other aid to make with worthwhile.

When did you guys get the PIP and what does it look like? I don’t think I’ve gotten it but I want to make sure I didn’t accidentally not realize what it was

Daughter got acceptance letter last month (Gabelli) and PIP last week. No specific scholarships mentioned, but did get grant/merit aid. We do not qualify for need aid.
Stats: SAT 2000, ACT 31, W4.04, NHS, NEHS, 7 APS, AP Scholar with Honor, lots of ECs including 4 yr varsity sport, trilingual, has taken some college classes at Ivy schools, study abroad, Hispanic, immigrant. Good luck to all!

@rgosula - Same here. National Hispanic with 3.6 and a 2290 SAT. So they said that it was too competitive? How much more overqualified can you get than a 2300+!

I find it hard to believe that 2300 and 2350 SAT are “not competitive enough.” Perhaps so many students study really hard and “train” themselves for the SATs that it is losing its impressiveness.

I’m guessing that the so-called “Semifinalist” scholarships are primarily based on the PSAT (i.e., they appear to be targeted at NMSFs), so perhaps even if you later did well on the actual SAT, that info may be mitigated by a lower score on the PSAT… “Semifinalist” represents a higher score than “National Hispanic” or “Commended”. (I know, it’s one score on one test on one particular day, but if that’s what is being used to make a distinction between candidates, it is what it is.)

Called my admissions rep earlier today . . . voicemail. I just want to get this figured out!

That is what they said. SAT are high but…
Maybe the 3.6 GPA is not high enough for such a good scholarship → Full tuition.

I am still hopeful to see something good in the PiP to make it a resonable choice.

UDJ111 stats are even better, and he does not have confirmation of the Semifinalist Scholarship.

If we got what UDJ111 got, 26K, we could make a go of it.

I hope the best for you! I hear that they offer more as the process goes on. I was under the impression that the NMSF was more-or-less guaranteed. I’m sort of in a squeeze now.

The big red folders arrived for my daughters today! Glad to see them. The fourth paragraph notes, “As a Fordham University Semifinalist scholarship recipient … Details about your scholarship are provided in the online Admission Letter.” Which they were.

Very excited about Ds going to Fordham next year. Best wishes to all.

I’m not NMSF but, I am number 1 at our school. I noticed Fordham gave presidential scholarships to those in the 1% at their high school. I only got the Dean’s scholarship, however. Should I contact admissions?

Our D received the big red folder today also. HOWEVER, unlike for K, there is no mention of her semifinalist award…though the award is clearly stated on her online acceptance letter.

Seems like Fordham is struggling a bit with consistency and paper work this round of admissions! We were assured that she is in fact receiving the award so I am trusting that. But hubby wants to call and ask for another hard copy letter with the award clearly stated (my mistake to tell him about the ‘Congratulation’ financial aid letters that went out to some recently by mistake!).

T

allforthebest, it never hurts to ask. Note that the Presidential award also requires top test scores; because it is competitive, those decisions may not be made until after the general admissions pool is complete. If you learn anything, let us know.

Taben, so sorry about that – poor hubby! Print out the online award; maybe that will help him.

First, the admissions financial aid errors this year were a Fordham first. To my knowledge.

Second, I have never heard of anyone who was notified of a scholarship not to receive one.

Third, I believe that the amounts of the awards are consistent within their category. Differences can be in extra financial aid for those qualifying for additional aid.

Fourth, everyone has until May 1 to decide. Fordham is non binding EA. If you applied ED somewhere else, then its moot here when you get your award if you are accepted at the ED school. Otherwise, please be patient, as Fordham is expecting record numbers of applicants this year and its always a circus sorting out who is coming and who isnt coming and so forth. Some people do get late notices of scholarship amounts, but they tend to be in the RD pool, and almost without exception well before the RD notice of admission day which is just prior to April 1.

Its frustrating. But it happens at a lot of schools, particularly schools with high volume of applications. If you got a scholarship, congratulations. Sit back and relax and enjoy the Holiday Season, then wait and compare offers as they all come in the coming months. You have until May 1 to pull the trigger.

I have scores in the 97%, but they certainly are not perfect. I’ll give it a try just to make sure I’m not missing out on any scholarship money!

I received my red folder today with a hard copy of my admission letter, however it didn’t state anything about a scholarship. Does this mean I did not get a scholarship? Fordham is my number one choice, but there is no way my parents can shell out $56,000 per year for me to attend there. They have paid for three kids to go through private high school ($15,000 per year X 4 years X 3 children= $180,000 in total just for high school) plus already sent 2 kids through college: roughly $30,000 per year out of pocket per child. Total comes to around $240,000 for college. I have a 28 ACT with a 3.6 GPA in all advanced classes in a top private Catholic high school in Kentucky. I also recently just finished up my 1st semester of my senior year with a 3.98 GPA. Would sending my most recent transcript help with any scholarship opportunities?
