Wonderful news. Dont be fearful. It is eclectic and its a very different world for many, including those who live nearby in suburban Connecticut, Long Island and New Jersey. But embrace the Bronx. There are many opportunities for personal growth through internships.

Stay away from the party animals. Come prepared to work hard and be challenged. Make friends at Fordham among the students with similar interests as you, and who are serious about their studies.

I recommend coming to the April accepted students weekend. Reach out and talk to people.

Great to hear! I will plan to attend the accepted students session in April. I was going to head down in Feb as we are from MA and it is only a 3+ hour drive but I think I will hold off until April. I am very excited about all the Fordham and NY have in store for me. Thanks again for all of your advice.

Fordham has been my dream school for four years now. I got my acceptance letter back in December, along with my scholarship letter. The letter stated that I received the Dean’s scholarship. However, that scholarship ranges from $10,000-$22,000 and that is a huge gap. Does anyone know when they will reveal a specific amount?

Also, even if I get the highest amount from the Dean’s scholarship, it would still cost over $40,000 for me to attend Fordham. Is there any chance that I could receive a higher scholarship than the Dean’s after they review all of the other applicants? Or is $22,000 the maximum amount that I can get?

I really want to attend Fordham more than anything. I honestly cannot picture myself anywhere else. But I also can’t picture myself drowning in over $160,000 of debt after college. According to the SAS thing that Fordham offered, my parents can afford to put $30 something thousand dollars a year towards my education. I have no idea where they got that idea from considering my parents already have $100,000+ in loans for my sister’s college education and they are not going to be able to take out any loans for mine. I’m going to be paying for college myself and it’s really frustrating.

I feel so hopeless right now. I have worked so hard to be able to attend this school and the odds just do not seem to be in my favor.

Is there anything noted on your financial aid page about grants? Fordham isn’t a school that meets full need, so maybe when all the aid stuff is filed and you have an aid package maybe it can be done?

This may help answer your question. This is what is stated on Fordham’s website regarding the Dean’s Scholarship.

“A merit scholarship of at least $10,000. If need is demonstrated on the Profile, awards may range up to $22,000. This award will only be applied toward tuition charges for courses taken at Fordham. Student must maintain a ‘full-time’ status.”

Also, here’s the link to more regarding the scholarship along with a list of other scholarships.

I believe Fordham will need to strengthen the application process. Growth in numbers of applicants is great. However, Fordham fails to have the additional essays, SAT II requirements or recommendation and interview (even if optional) that BC, Villanova and others have. As time goes on and we talk to others, we have found several who applied on a whim because so little is required beyond the Common App. Even one additional step will weed out those who apply because it is fast and easy to do so. Does anyone know what Fordham’s yield traditionally is (how may who are accepted attend)? I do believe the name recognition starting to spread, but find that it is still much more regionally known than nationally.

The redesigned website is exciting news to hear! We’ve had a tough time finding information on the site, especially about dorms and some specific questions. However, the University has kindly answered all questions when we have called the main number for help in trying to find out information.

Perhaps Fordham itself is feeling the need to increase services (i.e. the updated website) due to the rise in applicants and name recognition?

Fordham’s yield is very low. Take the number of applicants from year’s past and deduce it from the total number of students enrolled at FCLS, FCRH and Gabelli. Those are the undergraduate colleges. It may be adjusted a bit from the school of continuing studies but nominally.

A very high percentage of students who apply to Fordham also apply to higher ranking schools. The other problem is some peer schools or lower ranking schools offer better scholarship and financial aid and we lose them. But Fordham only has so many beds/rooms available for resident students and they take into consideration the expected yield loss. In a perfect world we have a highly selective college with a high yield.

Fordham is not alone in this situation. Private schools in general lose a lot of admitted students to state colleges or other private schools with more affordable tuition/discount rates/scholarships. It is NOT a measure of Fordham’s academic prowess or strength of faculty. Its just the numbers game.

Fordham will send out dorm information after the RD pool closes and they know who is coming. Typically that is in June. The new dorms at Lincoln Center will open in the Fall and that will increase the available number of residents there. Lincoln Center has a high percentage of commuter students as well.

The real enemy is rising tuition costs.

There is stress applying to college. Stress waiting on answers. And another round of stress picking between offers and which is most affordable. It causes a lot of anguish. Been there.

For those admitted students who are ready to pay their deposits, just wanted to provide some info that may help. In order to enter AccessIT, the student must first “claim an account.” At the claim an account prompt, the student is asked to input the last 5 digits of their Social Security number.

For some students, this will not work. If that is the case, substitute the last 5 digits of your Fordham Student ID. This should have been sent to you in an email. If you have received a Fordham Personal Information Packet, it is also on the “Congratulations” page, lower right. If neither of these works, the data field has inadvertently been left blank; you will need to call 718.817.3900. Good luck!

Just wondering if all the deferred students and all the regular decision candidates have received emails today or recently reminding them to submit any remaining financial aid data?

I received an e-mail today from what I assume is a financial aid officer. He emailed my mom and I to ensure the amount reported on my CSS is correct. Could this mean anything?
