I got deferred today which was not a surprise but I feel like i should have gotten in. I mean i dont think i have a chance of getting in now ha because my 11th grade grades were all A's and if they deferred me then i doubt they care about my senior year grades.

stats:
3.9 gpa
26 act
mom and dad alumni
dad is current faculty member at u of m.

Typically, roughly 25,000 students apply to Michigan annually. Most applicants have Michigan GPAs in the 3.6-4.0 range and SAT/ACT that range between 1200-1600/26-36. Very few applicants (well under 20% I'd say) have sub 3.5 Michigan GPAs or sub 1200/26 SAT/ACT scores. As such, it is clear that Michigan must turn down many highly qualified applicants each year.

This year should be worse than usual. I expect at least 27,000 applicants (could be significantly more if we make it to the Fiesta Bow and win!) for 11,500-12,000 acceptances.

And Wasabi, your friends who were supposedly accepted represent a very lucky minority. The stats are pretty clear. Fewer than 10% of the students admitted (not enrolled mind you) into Michigan have GPAs under 3.7 and SAT/ACT scores under 1250/27. They make up 25% of the student body because almost all of those students chose to enroll, compared to roughly 40% of the remaining acceptees who have considerably higher stats.

Wasabi, why do you feel like you should have gotten in?!
Your ACT is lower than Michigan generally accepts, and MUCH, MUCH lower than those of most of the people on this board. Look around, there's people with better stats then you who got deferred, so I find it pretty, er, bold of you to make a statement saying you "should have gotten in."

i just think that they turn down applicants who deserve to get in who are smart. i dont think believe that the ACT truly shows how smart a person is becuase i have seen it work both ways. I understand that i was deferred but im wondering if im going to get in now that i am deferred. i applied straight to LSA. I eventually want to go into business and have already been accepted straight into Purdue's Krannert School of Management which is like 2 or 3 spots down in the rankings for michigan.

The school can't take every qualified applicant. There aren't enough spots. There are going to be well qualified students that aren't going to get into the school. You won't be the only one.

It took me 3. Wait for a month, and then call them if you don't get an email. They say they have my SAT scores and that they updated my WA, yet it still says that they have not received my test scores. They are slow. Deal with it like the rest of us are.
