Acceptance Thread

i applied 11/14 and still no decision.
im pretty sure now that i am rejected. i called the office yesterday and the guy told me that all my pieces have been in fact received and that they have still not made a decision yet. but he probably isn't allowed to say "you should be hearing about our decision soon" because if he said that i would know for a fact i was either deferred or rejected because there was nothing on my WA.

My essays were good, and I got recs from an AP teacher who liked me a lot and a science teacher who has known me for 4 years... Its alright, I think I am being a sore loser, I was just surprised because my college counselor told me Mich was my safety school

It surprises me too, I must admit. Then again, I can't entirely understand why I was deferred by UChi. Maybe certain schools can really sense whether or not a student will be a good fit. You were deferred by Mich and accepted by Chi, which you prefer, and I was deferred by Chi and accepted by Mich, which I prefer, so I guess it all works out ;)

They're supposed to continue a trend of selectivity in 2007. I hear it's because they're remodeling dorms or something?

[/quote]

Last year they were renovating some of the freshman dorms, which may have contributed to the increse in selectivity. I'm not sure if they are still working on those dorms and if they'll be ready for Fall 07. But most top schools have seen their selectivity increase and it seems like every year schools are claiming record numbers of applications and rejections. It's pretty much a trend across the board for schools consistently ranked in the top 30.

anyoen hear anythign new

My friend somehow got deferred yesterday...

3.7 UM, 33 ACT, plenty of APs, lotsa music awards + decent EC's + a few leadership positions.

And the real kicker is he's in-state and applied 10/29...lol

wow r u kidding me he applied that early and got deferred.......well im screwed

You know the essay is a pretty big part in admission too.

deferred

3.5 UM GPA, 34 ACT, 2130 SAT (800W), 800 SAT II Lit, 660 SAT II Math I, at least 200 hours community service, amazing essay, OOS, south asian

I thought I'd get in without a problem...wow

LOL im scared now...OOS, Ca, 3.4 UM GPA, 2140 one sitting, 730 2c, 670 physics, Micorsoft Internship+sent them 2 recs from Microsoft (i heard Msoft has a big presense there?)

Yes the essay is a big part, but thing is...most people with good stats won't be the type of student that writes a poor essay...

UMich's selectivity is often underrated :S

Accepted today - Nursing School
OOS (out of country but US citizen)
2050, 1320 SAT
3.6 GPA unweighted (UMICH GPA lower?), no class ranking
will be 4th generation wolverine if she decides to attend

In regards to the earlier post of mine a few pgs. back, you are allowed to play varsity tennis in 8th grade, but you have to pass some required tests. I am also OOS, and a Male.

UMich is becoming increasingly difficult not just for OOS students but in-staters as well. For instance, I met a girl from Michigan (family is from India if that paints any clearer a picture) who is attending NYU but was rejected from UMich. I always thought NYU admissions was comparable to OOS for UMich but I guess not.

nyu cares less bout ur uw gpa, so i mean if ur schools really hard or something then umich might not like you.... and yes i'll keep complaining bout that lol.. and if i dont get in you guys wont hear the end of it

Dude I totally agree with you on that one. I know for a fact that NYU will take low GPA's (think non-URM, 3.0 - 3.4)...too bad I didn't apply there out of high school. I went to a hard OOS school which killed my GPA (especially freshman year) and was waitlisted @ UMich last year. So here I am applying again as a transfer.

nice good luck with that, if we dont get in then we can start taking over the board with complaints about the uw gpa lol
