Acceptance with some questions...

Hi everyone! My daughter received her acceptance letter from St Mike's and is beyond thrilled. She did also receive a merit scholarship, which honestly, I am disappointed with the amount. Here are a couple of questions I was hoping someone can answer...

Is the scholarship offered final? Is is negotiable? If so, how is does the process work?

My daughter got invited to attend a Early Action accepted-students day. How does this differ from regular accepted-students day? Advantages to either?

Thanks so much for the help and Happy New Year!

Hello softballmom18-

Jeremy from the SMC Office of Admission here!

Before everything else-- a huge congratulations to your daughter & Happy New Year!

The first step will be to complete the FAFSA which is now available as it is the new year. Once you have submitted that and it has been reviewed you will find out if there is additional aid available.

Once you have the entire package, if you still feel as though you would like to have her package re-evaluated, you need to put your request in writing to:

Office of New Student Aid & Scholarships
Saint Michael’s College
One Winooski Park, Box 4
Colchester, VT 05439

Things to possibly include in the letter is any academic improvement your daughter may have had (e.g. If your student’s high school ranks their students and your daughter’s rank has improved since she applied certainly include that. If your student possibly retook the SAT/ACT and improved her score(s), include the updated scores) as well as any unique family financial situations you feel the FAFSA may not have taken into account.

As far as the Accepted Student programs, the only advantage to the Early Action programs is that they will tend to be a bit smaller. The later events will be set up for larger groups but will provide a similar experience, just on a larger scale.

Please feel free to contact me directly (invitation is also open to others on CollegeConfidential!) if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Thank you Jeremy!
