Acceptance!!!!

I didn’t find my name on the list. gah

my numbers anyway:

UCGPA Y11 Full IB: 4.50
UCGPA Y12 Full IB Preliminaries: 4.83
UCGPA Full IB Final: 4.83 (776665+1)
SAT I: CR 800, M 740, W 730
SAT II: BIO E 730, LIT 630 (I know)

Above average ECs, First Generation, International, L&S

The CalNet search is ******** fools. It is possible it applies to Regent’s Scholars but not to everybody. You can still get in!

i’m freakin’ out HARD. anyone here just a normal kid and not a sooper college confidentialite?/ know any “average” kids that have gotten into cal?

@shewy2015 I think of myself as an “average” student, and I also think I have a slim chance since I got rejected by UCLA a few weeks ago. I have a friend that got in last year with a mid 1600 SAT, so that gives me hope!

So is the CalNet site thing working anymore or not? I’m hoping not… lol

just wait guys… it wont kill you… unless you are dying to get into UCB. but less than 24 hours!!

@luiscoco 1600!!! in all three sections? what else did he/she have going for him/her!!! i mean, their stats are OFF THE FRIGGIN’ CHARTZ but the kids that get in on CC are crazy good. i’m hoping they admit a healthy serving of kids what don’t have 2400s or 4.9s. EEEEEEEEEEPP! so close! yet… so far away…

@shewy2015 Yeppp. Mid 1600’s, so around 1650. Still low compared to others that have been admitted. I don’t know much else about her stats. I do know that she had a ~4.4? Enough to get Salutatorian at our mediocre high school. She’s majoring in Architecture.

@luisiscoo* not luiscoco haha
hmm. cool stuff. yah… i do not have a 4.4… or i don’t think so… it’d be cool if i did, but i don’t get the UC gpa or point system thingy. GAH! I want Berkeley sooo baaaad! I was denied admission to UCLA too, and I’m kind of surprised at the small number (comparatively) of students on this thread.

Ms. Sun seriously brightens my day… everyday.

"Rumor Alert!

I’m getting a bunch of questions about whether the “you can get into either Cal or UCLA, but not both” thing is true.

The answer is NO.

UCLA is narrowly focused on academic achievement while Berkeley tends to favor well-rounded students, so the two campuses essentially admit two different groups of students thus giving the illusion that the campuses “compare notes.”

Realistically it’s impossible to “compare notes” on 55k-60k applications. Everyone thinks the UCs are networked together with some all-seeing, all-knowing computer. The truth is the campuses don’t talk to each other and they don’t know what the other campuses are up to most of the time (I’m still waiting to see if they can get their act together to check for multiple SIRs …)."

AGH!!! i’m freaking.

Don’t worry guys, I’m a first year at Cal (I don’t know how I found my way onto this thread) but I started reading and I see a lot of people freaking out. Well don’t.

Either way, whether Cal is your dream school or you think for sure you’ll get rejected, no matter what happens, you’re gonna have a great 4 years of college wherever you go. It’s the experience, not where you go. Major also matters, and in some opinions, your major has more of an impact on your career than the college you attend for undergrad.

As for me, I was rejected by UCLA but got into UCB. So for you all out there who got rejected by LA there’s still hope. I didn’t have the greatest SAT or GPA either, as I see a lot of you are posting your stats… most of them are better than mine. But institutions like Berkeley look at more than just SAT and GPA. They go for (I hear) whether you’re well-rounded or not.

all in all, don’t worry about it too much. Tomorrow will come and it will go, and your life will continue, whether you get in or not. This is not a measure of how successful you’ve been in high school, it’s just seeing whether UC Berkeley is the right school for you or not. And to some, it may be, and to some, it may not be. But just chill. Life has a funny way of always working itself out in the end.

^ thank you

Is it still possible for me to get in even if I got rejected from LA and SD?

This sentences gives me hope for some reason…

UCLA and Cal are kind of odd. Oftentimes, a student will get admitted to one and not the other (almost like they cooperate and say “I’ll take this one and you take that one.”) Not many as many people as you’d expect seem to get into both. Being denied LA doesn’t mean you won’t get into Cal. My cousin got into Cal and not LA.

@BearTriton Woah, that put me in a good mood. Please be here tomorrow if I get rejected. hahaha

i like how, @beartriton, is both a combination of berkeley and ucsd, haha

Read into what Ms. Sun said about it not being a collaborative decision between Cal and UCLA about which students they’ll admit.

I’m currently a freshman at Cal and I surprisingly got in. Hopefully this will make you guys feel better! Cal really does conduct a HOLISTIC review of all applicants. Scores don’t hold as much significance as I thought they would…

SAT: 1950

SAT II’s: 670 (Bio M), 660 (Chem), and 640 (Math Level II)
To make matters worse, I submitted my Math Level II scores late because I couldn’t take it in December at my testing center (power outage). My scores were sent extremely late.

AP’s: Bio, ES, and Psych - all 5’s. (But my scores weren’t available to Cal until after I got in, because I was only offered these AP’s [or any AP’s as a matter of fact] in my senior year.)

Extracurriculars: Student Council (Secretary (9th), President (11th), Representative (8th), “Griffin/Honorary Member”), Yearbook (Editor), Newspaper (Editor and Founder), founded my own environmental organization for my island, worked several community service hours (primarily at veterinary clinics), Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, a Cultural Club on my island (was Secretary and Vice President), was part of the Emerging Global Leaders’ Program for 2 years (nominated by my school to represent my island in an inter-island leadership conference), Debate team (all years of high school)

Hooks: I guess because I’m a student from the Caribbean. But I don’t imagine this affected my application as much as I thought it would.

Essays: I just remember loving them :).

Good luck to all of you!

@CaribbeanChild
woahhhhhh look at all those EC’s…did you write both essays on EC’s?? im sure that was a big factor in your admission… but congrats anyways (even though Im a year late ;)!!

so what time is it coming out…
im hearing either noon, 4 or 5?! any clues guys?!

I do believe I did. I think I wrote about how I grew from a nothing to a something when I moved schools. Nothing too extravagant… Good luck spatel23! :)

I got accepted at UCLA, UCSD, UCSB [they gave me undeclared; I applied for EE], UCR. Rejected from UCI. Waiting on UCD and UCB. What chance would I have for UCB? =/
