Acceptance?

i applied RD. i got my san diego state univeristy acceptance last month and wanted to know when we get our acceptance letter to SLO?

My son has applied also and still no determinination. Only the MyCalPoly login information. He's heard from CSU Fullerton but not CSU Long Beach. I'm guessing not until February.

is it normal that i still haven't received the mypoly login info?

Son submitted 11/26; received the login info on January 7th.

I submitted my RD app on 11/03 and got the login info early December (found it in the "bulk" section of my email though). Try calling the admissions office and find out.

sympathy me neither.

they must be slow. I sumbitted I think Nov. 28.

wow you submitted on the same day as i did.

thanks everyone for the replies. i guess i will just have to play the waiting game a bit longer :P

I applied for ED back in late October. I never recieved an emailed confirmation or the access to Cal Poly Portal via email. I just went on the admissions website and activated the Portal account myself. You'll need your application confirmation number from CSU Mentor.

They posted an update on Jan. 7 2006 that they're still uploading some of the regular admissions applications unto their system so it may be a while before your Portal account will be prepared.

Today, I finally got a paper mail notice stating that I did not get in through the Early Decision program and that my application has been rolled over to regular decision. It says that they hope to determine everybody's admission status by late march and we'll all be notified of our status by April. Hopefully, that plan will stay its course and there won't be any delays. My boss told me that even when he applied for Cal Poly back 30 years ago, they were notorious for making everybody wait a long time after other all other colleges have responded. Their wait game is infamous and in the end, it's worth it to be able to attend such an esteemed university.

The admissions office at Cal Poly is exceptionally friendly so contact them if you have any questions. I've emailed them twice in the past and they've always replied within one business day.

Best of luck to everybody!

Walnuts, what are your stats and what major did you apply under?

I applied for Business Administration.

My CSU GPA is subpar at 3.52 and when considering 9th grade, it plummets. Cal Poly selects the best individual test score form all SAT sittings, so I'm fielding a 610 CR and 620 math. I believe Writing is still disregarded. Interning for a bank since the end of sophomor year. Although how that'll impact the application is beyond me. If only I could send a personal essay or letter of recommendation, then I could make my application shine. Instead, they just ask the whether your work is 25% related and how many hours you worked. California resident. US citizen.

It was an absolute longshot for Early Decision and I was not at all disappointed by the result. However, when regular admissions roll around, I sincerely hope to be one of the few blessed teenagers in this great country of ours to be offered admission to attend the university.

It is really interesting to look at the statistics for the Cal Poly Freshman Profile. Within a few of its 6 colleges, the profile for enrolled students are sometimes significantly lower than the profile for the admitted students. Centering around the lowered mean, I just hope that there are alot of 4.0 and above students that enrolled so that there may be room for some students with mid 3. GPAs to squeeze in to counterweigh it. Should this be the case, I will have a shot.

However, consider this other scenario, in the example of the Orfalea College of Business statistics for enrolled freshman being around 3.74 with an average SAT score of 1198. Now this is just a big "what if", but if there are very few amongst this population that had GPAs over 4.0 and that all the ones with superb GPAs went on to other schools and declined their admission offer, then it means that only the bottom of the admitted applicant pool enrolled and that there exists almost little or no variance amongst the student stat. distribution. Should this really be the case, then it spells doom for me.

Without more statistics released from the University, either scenario may be the reality and it's nearly impossible to predict one's admission. If they would only give us the standard deviation of the averages they posted for the admitted and enrolled freshmen profile...

"they were notorious for making everybody wait a long time after other all other colleges have responded."

Not so much anymore. I applied in 2001 and got my letter on april 1st. Most of my friends were sent responses around that date, as well.

how do you guys think cal poly compares to the UCs?

probably as good as uci/ucd.

Thanks Walnut for the great reply. Very informative.

Thanks Walnut.

packerfan22, I'd say cal poly slo, w/o a doubt, beats both uci and ucd in engineering and is similar in everything else.

both uci and ucd don't have business.....btw

The location is great, too, if you aren't too interested in a big city atmosphere.
