Acceptance?

i just received a letter today that begins with, "Congratulations on your admission to the University of Pittsburgh, and welcome to the Pitt family! If you are still uncertain whether or not Pitt is it for you, then I encourage you and your family to join us for one of our spring 2007 Days for Admitted Students."

it's an invitation to attend A Day for Admitted Students.

the problem is that i applied about 2 weeks ago and i havent received an official acceptance letter yet.

i dont know what's going on here.
did they make a mistake or what?

I received the same thing, but it came in an envelope with my official acceptance letter. The thing you are talking about is more like a brochure right? Check the envelope again, the acceptance letter begins like this:
Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that you have been accepted for admission to the University of Pittsburgh!

I'm thinking that is your acceptance letter. "Congratulations on your admission" sounds like you made it to me. Since you applied later in the rolling admissions process, I'm guessing they combined your acceptance letter with notification for A Day For Admitted Students. Everyone who got accepted to Pitt is invited to A Day for Admitted Students. These days are geared toward students that aren't sure if they want to go to Pitt or not. It's a chance for them to visit the campus if they haven't yet. Even though my daughter was admitted in Oct. and mailed in her $300 deposit, she still got the invitation for Admitted Students Day. It's a good opportunity to look around campus again and ask questions if you have any.

You may still get another letter verifying your admission. I've discovered that Pitt departments send things out at different times and I don't think the departments talk to each other about what they are sending out. My D received a letter about a week before the date on the letter. Anyway, if you still aren't sure give the Admissions Office a call.

When did you apply, Flood?

i applied on jan 15.
noted on my application to wait for my essay before reviewing it.
emailed them my essay on jan 23.
got the letter/brochure today with postmark date: jan 29
i dont think it's an official acceptance letter

i thought it was going to take them a lot longer to make a decision.
idk.
i think i'll call in the next few days to find out what's going on.

Flood, yes, call OAFA. Maybe they accepted you before they even read your essay. The personal essay is optional. In my opinion, if you have high scores/gpa, rigorous course load - you probably have nothing to worry about. Good luck!

Wow... that is really quick. Where's my admissions decision? :( Submitted the 14th and emailed essay the 15th.

I just got my official acceptance letter today!
postmarked on jan 30.
wow, it took them 2 weeks to process and review my application.

I thought they had more applicants this year?

anyway, when do i find out if i get any scholarships?

Congrats! What did the envelope look like?

You could hear about scholarships anywhere from a week to a month from what everyone has said on this site that already got one. Good luck!

Flood, Stowmom is right. Some students hear almost immediately after acceptance, other hear later. Although they consider each applicant "holistically", so they say, it's to your benefit if you've taken demanding courses (i.e., AP's), have a better-than-average gpa, and your rank-in-class is right up there.... Read the posts of past merit $ recipients, and this should give you a good idea of your chances. Good luck!

yeah, im kind of worried because it's now february and im dont know how much they have left.

does anyone know when they're going to award those scholarships for minority students (full rides)?
im OOS so im hoping for a full ride scholarship.

oh well, i guess i'll just wait and see.

Hey!
I got an acceptance letter two weeks after I mailed my app in (December 15). Two days later, I received notice that I had recieved one of their full tuition scholarships -- The Honors Scholarship, something like that.
I am waiting on hearing about the Chancellors, which comes after you get the letter for the Honors Scholarship.

hey, should I be worried that im still waiting to hear from them about scholarships?
i applied on jan 15 and i got my acceptance letter on feb 3( postmarked on jan 30).
i think i should at least get something -based on my SAT score and GPA since they are like two of the most important things that they look for.

My stats: around top 7%, 7 APs, good GPA, 2100s SAT.
does it help that im OOS?
i also did the essay.

they said that i should hear from them within a month if i get anything, but i hate waiting. I check my email and mail like almost every day. Pitt is my first choice but OOS tuition is just way too expensive for me.

I'm just really worried because it's been about 2 weeks now. I have this fear that someone put my essay in the wrong folder or my folder got lost in their office. haha...

Flood, I understand how you feel... In reviewing previous posts, there are many well qualified students competing for scholarships this year. I know that waiting for something to come in the mail is difficult. If you're awarded $ you'll hear from them. Unfortunately, I think good students are sometimes left hanging - anticipating some $ but they get nothing. (That's why it's important to apply to other schools as well where your academic profile may make you eligible for $.) My best advice is to call OAFA periodically. You might get fortunate and get someone on the phone who, at least, might be able to look your name up and tell you if the scholarship committee has even considered your application or not as yet...
Hope this helps, and the best of luck to you - but have a back-up plan in case Pitt doesn't work out for you due to finances.

I just got the "Day for Admitted Students" brochure, but I still have not recieved any offical acceptance letter. I think I submitted all my application materials on Jan. 29th, so I have no clue whether this is real or not. From what people have said it appears I was accepted, is it safe to assume that?

I'd contact the OAFA.

I dont know what kind of envelopes you all got but i really think the one i got in the mail takes away from all the excitement of opening college letters LOL my envelope had the word congratulations written in large letters over the big fat envelope......i mean wheres the suspense in that!...I sent my app in jan 15th and got my acceptance around feb 9th....I guess its all chance how fast you hear back...

^^^ Had the same envelope! :) Yeah, they do make it pretty explicit. I got another acceptance letter with "You're in!" on the envelope (but it was a small one). I guess "Congratulations" is a bit more subtle?
