Acceptances for 2008

Has anyone received their acceptance from TAMU who is from the second quartile of their high school class? If so, when did you apply and when did you get notification of acceptance?

Thanks.

Obsessed, I'm pretty sure the TAMU website says that if an applicant is in a review status (not top 10% or automatic admit with top 25% of class AND SAT 1300 or ACT 30) then decisions likely won't be out until April.

I know it's frustrating waiting but just wanted to let you know that it may be a few more months....

Ok...that means I need to accept my admission to Miami of Ohio...I can't wait until April...Ohio here I come! Good luck guys!

Had a chance to find it on the TAMU website - listed under the FAQ section, "Admissions Decisions - Early".
Question: "Do you have Early Decision or Early Action options?".
Answer: "No. There is a projected 2–3 week processing time for paperwork supplied for an automatic admit freshman (top 10% or academic admit), so the earlier you apply and forward all required paperwork, the quicker your decision letter can be mailed. If you are in review, it is likely you will receive your decision no earlier than April."

I have a couple of friends who are just below the automatic admit(20 pts. on the SAT for one and 1 pt. on the ACT for the other, but they fit all other things). They applied in Nov. and Dec. and still haven't heard.

I am aware of at least one young man from my son's HS that is not an automatic who received his acceptance before the holidays. Apparently an Eagle Scout and has committed to the Corps of Cadets. He also agreed to start classes this summer. I did not realize that this sort of accomodation or program existed.

Yeah...my son is sweating it out with acceptances in-hand since September from Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss. He is the son of an Aggie and he will be heartbroken if he has to "settle" for Auburn. At least the construction science program at Auburn is one of the best around.

Obsessed, would your son consider joining the Corps? Every program we've been to at A&M and every Aggie we've spoken with (and there are lots of them in the area where we live) has stressed that Corps recruiting is premium and this might give him an edge. Colonel Jon Hall is Commandant of Recruiting at the Corps - the Corps number is on the website and you can see if it would assist with the admissions offer.

Did your son apply to Texas A&M Galveston? If not, you may want to check it out - they want applications by March 1. TAMUG offers guaranteed transfer to A&M after a year of acceptable grades (I can't remember the exact GPA). The real incentive here is that it's not considered an actual transfer with an application process, it's literally just moving to the main campus. Here's a link: http://www.tamug.edu/admrc/Admissions/General%20Admission.htm

You can also check out A&M's Corps website area where they have a really good brochure for all sorts of admissions situations - particularly page 2: http://www.aggiecorps.org/files/corps_admissions.pdf

Hope this helps! My son would have been devestated if he hadn't gotten in to A&M so I understand what you're going through!

Yeah, the Corps. will get you accepted earlier. Don't worry Obsessed Dad. I don't know of any kids accepted yet, except those automatically admitted.

Thank you for your feedback. We have discussed the Corp and it's just not a good fit for my son. He is very independent.

Bandnerd...I have heard in the past week of a few Review applicants being accepted. I do think the AdComm is starting to release a few acceptances now.

We have our fingers crossed.

Yes, I have heard of a number of review applicans hearing in this past week, so they must be going through them. I know of a bunch of kids who are still waiting and are having nervous breakdowns!!

Good luck!!

hi, i got mine in about 3 weeks ago. i was 1st quarter though, but not top ten percent. only got in to the school of liberal arts but atleast i was accepted. your son may be wait listed and may have to wait till april, but if he had decent test scores i bet he'll get in

Im ranked 10.66%, missed it by 1 person ;s

still havent heard, have a 1220 M+CR

My son was accepted to A & M yesterday for the College of Architecture. He came out of the review pool. I have never seen him more excited.

Good luck to all of you out there.

Gig 'em

Congrats Dad!! I hope my friend's kids start hearing soon!! Fingernails are being bitten to nubs:)

GREAT news Obsesseddad!! Gig 'em! None of my friends have heard yet. Applied Nov/Dec...when did he apply?

Bnerd-

He sent his application in late October and the transcripts, etc. from his high school were not registered in the system until late November. Some foul up at his school. So his review process was essentially 90 days.

Still waiting..

Top 11%, 1220 M+CR, Asian male

in state

No one I know outside of Auto admits has heard yet....

D was admitted about two weeks ago. Top 11 percent. 1180 cr/M SAT.

Spoke with a gal last night whose daughter was admitted, top 15%, to education.
